So after having to change my diet drastically , I am happy to say I have lost weight I wore a size 14 jeans, I am now in a size 8-10 depending on the manufacturer ... Yup just eating GF And Corn free I buy on the outer perimeters of the store, Fresh food, Fresh veggies and fresh meat! It has worked!! I also had to stop drinking pop even tho I didn't drink much of it. But I feel so much better and I have lost about 30 lbs. I havn't weighed myself lately so I am not sure. I go to a friends and weigh myself.

WTG!!! I also lost weight this past summer down to a 10 from a too tight 14---lol--- the 10 is a bit loose but I spent too many years in a 5 and don't want to go back there. Yep manufacturers do make a difference. In jeans there is a difference also in how they are cut, I made the mistake of buying without trying on , same brand as I had on but a different cut and those were way to loose in the rear. They were uncomfortable !!! I like my tops loose fitting but now those jeans have to be fitted but not skin tight... hahhahaha--
BTW I don't weigh myself go by sizes rather than weight... Beside I lost the scales in the fire and just have not bothered to replace them...

Yea I don't have a scale either , I go to a friends once in a while. In fact I thought when I tried on some 14's and they were to big. I figured it was the cut. So I bought the same cut in a 12. Yup then a couple weeks later I went to but more and the 12 didn't fit!! Well inbetween time I had gone to my Sleep Apnea guy and he said you have lost weight. So then the next time I went he said I lost more weight. So Yea!! Whoo hoo for me!! so 14 vs 10 and almost an 8. You know when Dave and I got married I wore a six. When I was 16 I wore a zero. I have always been thin, I figured getting older just made me bigger and bigger!! But I guess it wasn't all that. It was my diet. Gluten did it.

seems like a lot of people are having trouble with gluten!!! From the sound of your symtems I think thats part of my daughterinlaws problem , she has another appointment with another Dr this coming week. We shall see then. I am beginning to wonder if all the weird additives they put in processed foods these days are aggravating these problems with food--- the allergys and gluten etc. my daughter and her hubs both have been gluten free now better than a year --- after her son was born she had ballooned up to a 14 from a 1 . Shes now back to a 4 . Personally I think she looked better at a 6---shes tall but shes happy with her 4 .
They didn't have zeros when I was in my teens or 20s --- and very few 5's so everything bought had to be altered to fit . It was easier to simply make what I wanted and even then I had to alter patterns but once I had the basic parts altered Mom & I combined patterns to look mimic the style I wanted . A lot of weight gain is age related our metabolism has changed and our energy level is down which affects our muscle tone etc. .
But in hindsight I remember the meals my Grandmother cooked and ate --which included a lot of flour dishes, and desserts and neither her nor Grampa ever were over weight. But they ate what they raised and processed at home, canning and freezing and fresh in season . About the only thing they bought was a few of the staples they could not grow . Of course living on and running the farm kept them busy and active.

marielouise it is a hard thing to Diagnose aka DX . You have to be eating Gluten to have a Blood test . I mean be eating Gluten for a while month or so! 6 weeks! But sometimes still it can come out negative , so tell them do not give up!! If their test is negative tell them to go on a GF diet. see if it helps. If it helps , then they know they are at least intolerant. Like I said it is hard to be DX'd then if that doesn't help , tell them to try a Corn free diet. I am telling you that can be as bad Gluten!! High Fructose Corn Syrup, or corn in any form!! Is bad!! It does horrid things to me!! as bad as Gluten at times. I feel for them!! I may have to go on a Grain free diet soon

I am not ready to give up on Rice as of yet!! I bought a 25 lb of rice, right before I was Dx'd with Celiac. I want to eat the darn bag of rice! I guess I'd better get GF rice and give up on my 25lb bag! Give it to my son or daughter!

Congrats to both of you on the weight loss! I just started back on the straight & narrow about two weeks ago. Cleaned up my diet and am hopping on the tread mill instead of letting it collect dust. I'm tracking everything on WebMD. Hoping to drop about 40 lbs. I'm figuring around 8 pounds a month is reasonable.

Well, I had some moments of weakness when it came to the SU vs Duke game & the Superbowl last weekend, but I'm back on track now and my weight is still headed in the right direction. Slow & steady wins the race, right?

I dont call diets , diet. I call it a doit! Why do they have to call it a diet? And I do think once in a while you need to have a break from it. Then like you say back on track Good for you gardencrazy! Well I gained about 10 lbs back then lost .. I have a swelling problem. One day my size 8's are loose the next day it is tight. Not sure what the problem is. I have decided to go on a no processed food diet. See if it is Processed that is bothering me.

I think that the way foods are handled through the whole process (from field to store shelf) has a LOT to do with people's allergies & intolerances and that it is actually not from the food itself. Think about, commercial farmers use chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides. When picked they get sent to a processing plant where they're washed / rinsed and packaged. If that food is staying "whole" it still is stored somewhere until it makes it to the shelves. If its going to a processing plant then more chemicals, more processing and more packaging. I don't even want to think about the process for meats.
35 - 40 years ago it was unusual for a kid / person to have a lot food allergies or intolerance. Now its unusual for someone not to.
Anyway, I'll jump down of my high horse now. I hope cutting down on the processed foods help. Some of them can have a scary amount of salt which can make you retain water weight. Good luck!

I am going completely bonkers. I have a small (very small) incisional hernia, just big enough for my to have to poke my insides back in periodically. A few months after that happened, my back started spasming on one side. Now I am in PT still trying to make the back spasms stop. I have spent almost six months sitting very still in an effort to avoid pain. Not only am I ill suited to sitting very still a lot, I have gained 20 pounds while doing it! ARGH! If I eat any less I won't be eating at all, and DH is starting to get fierce about that. His internal jewish mother is telling him I need to eat more. I am doing my PT exercises like a new religion, and trying to figure out anything I can do that will up my activity levels without hurting, much at least.
I am one of those people who gains weight very easily, and does not lose it nearly so easily. You know, look at a cookie, gain 5 pounds, walk a couple of miles daily and barely maintain my weight without gaining. God wants me to be fat and I have been fighting her on it my whole life.

Seems like the doctors should be able to fix the hernia. We had an employee that had a small hernia. The insurance company considered it a superficial procedure and didn't cover it! Insurance companies stink! Anyway, I would think that the doctor would be able to help you.
I'm one of those people that easily gains weight too. I have to eat around 1200 calories a day to lose. I've also been hopping on the treadmill 5-6 days a week and trying to do some conditioning exercises. So far 10 lbs are gone. Have another 30 to go.

I lost so much then one day I was at 157 I was like yea baby hit into the 150's the next day I was at my friends and it said 167. I was like what? I have a witness also it said 157. Then 167 the next day. Since it has held ground at 162. I cannot seem to get under the 160 mark. Believe me it is better than where I was at. But I swear I know people who sit and eat all day long! They don't gain an ounce! I drink a soda during the day and Bam I gain 10 lbs! I go up and down stairs all day up cleaning and moving all day. Eat healthy meals meat and fresh veggies and fruit! And I don't eat all that much! But yet let me drink a soda and Bam 10 lbs jump right on me! So ok no soda! What eles can I do? right now I am not eating any processed foods! Just fresh veggies and meat. I want to know what I'm doing wrong. I will start posting what I eat.. I know my calories have to be under 900 ... I should be stick thin. But nope!! I am chubby ubbsie. Yet let Dave stop eating chip and he will lose 20 lbs! That sucks !

I went to the doctor's last week and mentioned I'm trying to drop some weight. I told her it was coming off slower than it did a year & a half ago. I told her I was trying to lose around 8 lbs a month (1-2 lbs a week, 30 lbs total). Her eyes go big! She told me that would be fine if I weighed 300 lbs, but a person of my stature (lets just ay not 300 lbs) should try to lose 1-2 lbs a month not a week! This is the first time in 30 years of dieting and reading about dieting (I'm talking places like WebMD not just fad diet type of things) that I've heard that!
So give yourself a break. Aim for 1-2 lbs a month!

Well my back is better. I incorporated "8 pieces of brocade" (the ancient art silk weaving exercises) from tai chi into my PT exercises. One day while I was doing one of the stretchiest ones it felt like a piece of cloth inside my back ripped. It didn't hurt, but it was the oddest sensation. Since then I have been just fine. The doctor theorizes that it was surgical adhesions, and I tore them loose. I did have some pretty big surgery, they were mucking about inside me from the breastbone down. So adhesions anywhere in my whole body could happen and in fact if they didn't happen somewhere it would be unusual. I am just glad it doesn't hurt any more.
So I am back to trying to build myself back up. The GP has me on a cholesterol drug, I won't take statins, so it is one of those bile acid binding resins, a drug to counter the intestinal consequence of eating a couple of grams of soluble plastic a day, and a bunch of vitamins and calcium. My cholesterol went up when I ran out of fish oil, so she prescribed me some. These have had the side affect of making me hungry, and making my hypoglycaemia more active. We are not talking a little munchy here, we are talking belly cramping light headed, HUNGRY. I am actually eating three times a day as opposed to once. I know I know, hypoglycaemics are supposed to eat 6 to eight small meals a day. I could never remember to eat that often. Normally, I get busy and don't think about food until it is suppertime, or DH yells at me. Even when I am working with food, baking or canning, or making a meal for family, I often do not think to eat myself because I have more things to do and go straight on to it. My weight is fluctuating wildly over around 10 pounds. The extremes of the weight swing are getting lower very gradually, so that is a good thing. My doctor says she does not care what I weigh so long as I am healthy (isn't that refreshing!), but she wants to keep a close eye on this fluctuation.
Hopefully when I get back to some degree of physical normalcy I'll have taken off some of the ouchy weight.

I also have not lost anymore weight. Havn't gained but havn't lost. I did lose my Dog this year.In Jan. He started having seizures so I waited for Dave to get home and we took him in. He was full of cancer, At first they wanted to send him to some special hosp. Then they looked at his blood work and it was full of cancer so that wasn't even an option anymore. So we had to put him down. I was so up set. I still apologize to him every day. I took him in to get him better and ended out bringing his lifeless body home. Breaks my heart every day. He trusted me, and I know he couldn't keep having seizures tho. He was really ill, had lost weight , wasn't eating or drinking much. I didn't want him to suffer any longer. Not sure what to do? I find myself getting a lil depressed, try to snap myself out of it. He wasn't just my dog he was everyones dog. He loved all my friends. He had toys at other peoples houses. As much as I want to get another dog I am not sure I want to go thru this again.

I know how hard it is to lose a beloved pet, Wendy. But since your dog was full of cancer, what was ahead of him was a lot of suffering, and he wouldn't have been able to understand what was happening to him or why. What you did was the best thing that you could do for him under the circumstances. I know you gave him a lot of love while he was here, and I am sure he had a great life with you. As for getting another dog, you will know when or if you are ready to do it. It sounds to me as though you may still need to do some healing. I have just started looking for cats again after losing my Valerie (or as we nicknamed her, "Her Royal Badness" - she got into a lot of mischief when she was younger) a few years back - she was almost 22 at the time, and I had had her since she was six weeks old. Oddly, what tipped me over into realizing I was ready to get more cats was a pair of dogs - Dachshunds owned by a friend. We went over to watch a movie with them and one of them spent most of the movie on my lap. I was holding and stroking that little dog, thinking, "Oh, I've been missing this." It's a good thing Dachshunds don't purr, or I might have tried to sneak out with one of them.
