Ouch, I would have been sad to lose so many apple trees. I am glad the rest of the trees are doing well.
The peach trees and the grafted apple trees ought to fruit for you in another year or two, but you have a long wait for the others - especially the pear. It will be fun to watch them grow and see what they eventually produce, though.

The snow and ice are finally beginning to melt off the main garden. They've already melted off the tomato garden to be, but the ground is still frozen SOLID! I have 4 trays under lights just beggin' to be set out, but... enjoy! Camo

Haven't had time to check the garden out yet. Looks like all the snow is finally gone. It was in the 50's yesterday. Back down into the low 30's today. I don't think spring has made it's mind up yet.

As usual my peppers and tomatoes desperately need to be transplanted outside already. It was 83F at 6 p.m. this evening. But I know there is a cold snap lurking somewhere. This year I'm planting on Good Friday April 3rd, at least a week later than usual. Hmmm? That means I need to start my cucumber seed by this weekend.

The long range forecast shows it getting down to 43 on April 8 and 44 on April 13. I know that can change though. That's the forecast for McKinney, which is the one use to predict frosts. The forecast for here well, frosts my cake when I go outside and everything's covered in ice!

Working on getting things planted out here. It's not my garden, exactly, but on Thursday I set up Mom's SWCs with her tomato and pepper plant.
Peach tree is starting to bloom. It's going to be really pretty soon.

I was powerfully tempted by a Dragonfruit plant. Mainly I was teaching Waldo to walk in a crowd and not jump on anybody, that he couldn't play with chihuahuas, and that he could play with Great Danes.

The ground finally thawed out this past week and dried out somewhat so I managed to get the tiller running and tilled both gardens. Good thing as I have ten trays under the lights and many looking to be transplanted...soon. enjoy camo

I talked to Dad tonight. He retilled the garden and we're going to plant this coming Friday. The back news is it sounds like the bearings are going out on the 30 year old tiller. I'll have to check on Craigs List for a rear tine tiller who's owner is short on cash.

Ah, good luck finding another tiller!
Peach tree is in full bloom. Got baby apples on both trees. Cherry trees bloomed a little bit but I don't think any have set. Got one pear on my little 4-in-1 pear tree. The Moonglow scion is blooming for the first time now. The Comice scion is also about to open a couple of clusters of blooms. This will be the first year either of those scions has bloomed at all.
The tomatoes that I planted out about two weeks ago are growing like weeds and starting to bloom. The Iva's Red Berry (cherry tomato) plant has set a couple of fruit already.
Got 30 of my 48 peppers planted. I need to buy some more dolomitic limestone so I can set up the Earthboxes for the rest. Then I need to get the green beans and cucumbers going.

I am watching it rain. And thinking about the forecast for rain for the next 9 days, except possibly tomorrow. And I am hoping that this doesn't start the foliage diseases up early.

Today (Tuesday) it is not raining, but it is overcast and the fog is still burning off - so 100% humidity, ugh. Hopefully it will dry out a bit later so I can buzz some mater blooms.
Then I get to watch it rain again every day through next Monday. Ugh. So much for the spring dry season!

Finally am getting out and cleaning out the flowers beds! The veggie garden doesn't look in bad shape. The seedlings are sitting on the deck. The fruit trees took a beating from the critters and hard cold winter. It'll be a little while before I find out what made it through.
Unfortunately, the "s" word is in the picture for the end of this week. You that four letter word that gardeners hate! Well, at least at this point it'll be short lived and melt fast.

Well everything is up by now in my garden at my Dad's. The hot peppers are already blooming. Hopefully the fire ants eat up the mole crickets and the horn worms and squash bugs pester some one else.

So one of the peach trees blossomed and now has two peaches on it. Weird....it's only two years old and still in a 5-gallon bucket. Two of the apple trees also bloomed which was strange because they really hadn't produced any leaves yet. Budding up like crazy, and then Boing! a clump of blossoms at the end of a branch. One of the apple trees (William's Pride) self pollinated and now has about 6 apples on it and another bunch of flowers. The other apple tree (Gala) just sprouted a handful of blossoms two days ago. Then there's a whole 'nother situation. The Dragon's Egg cucumber seeds grew Patty Pan squash and the Moon & Stars melon seed grew something that looks suspiciously like zucchini.

Well I had been hoping to start getting things in the ground this coming week. The soil here is so clay heavy that I have to wait until mid-late spring for the ground to be dry enough, and then do a sprint to plant everything before the heavy rains in the latter half of May. Well it started snowing yesterday. A bit under an inch was in the forecast for today, but it started yesterday morning and it has been coming down in fits and starts ever since. I've got a bit more than an inch out there now, with more forecast to come and then clear skies over the weekend and yet more forecast for Monday.
I wanna get me a really tall ladder and go kick some "Sky Bears" in the butt!
"It snowed last night It snowed last night! The Sky Bears had a pillow fight They tore up every cloud in sight and covered the ground all sparkly white"

Sorry to hear about the snow, Nightmist. That has to be really frustrating!
Cliffrat, blooms before leaves is normal for peaches and apples. Some apple varieties do spread out their bloom period over several weeks. And peaches can bloom very young. Though if the peach tree is only a couple of feet tall in a 5 gallon blucket, you might want to pick off the peaches and pot up or plant out that tree, so it can focus on growth this year.

I am about to harvest my first peppers today - just a few Chichimeca jalepenos (at the green stage, just corking a bit). Got a single Black Hungarian pepper getting close, too.
I pulled the early flower buds off my bells and other large sweet peppers a few weeks ago because I wanted the plants to get more size before setting fruit. They are just about to start blooming again now. They'd all be farther along if we hadn't had two weeks of gray and rainy weather this month.
Tomatoes are sizing up nicely on a few plants, but nothing is ready yet. The cherry tomato (Iva's Red Berry) should ripen the first cluster soon, though.

Next weekend will be the big plant out (vegetable) for me. So far I've been trying to get my flower beds in shape so I can concentrate on the vegetable garden next weekend.
