You know Train I was thinking kinda on the same lines, alot of lil places just quit when the "Crash" came about, because ppl were just not buying, so we have to search for places that still carry stuff we want. I will try and find the semolina flour in Toledo next week..... I have got to find containers to keep those lil bugs out of them tho ... Any suggestions?
Tupperware does not work! Pffttttt!
Ya Wendy
I do not think it is the Tupperware.
I think the bugs came with the
product when you bought it.
Don't take me wrong.
Bugs can develop in the meal
or flour but most times I think
they come with an already old
product.
Matter of fact, I have seen them
running around in rice bags at
certain stores, usually those
that show less movement or buy
from giant warehouses that take
months on end to sell.
In that regard I would look for
a store that has great movement
and try again.
I love Tupperware but no longer
have that.
What I do use will shock you.
Perhaps they are apparent in some
of my pics in this thread.
I bought these cheap plastic containers
one ate a time from Wallgreens and
others from other products I saved
for re-use.
I'm an old scavenger from the old
days in Amateur radio when it was
in vogue to hunt around for needed
parts to build radios and transmitters
at the cheapest price possible.
I can't count how much stuff I built
at no cast at all or very little.
Heheh
Now you just go out and buy a new
radio for 2 to $3,000.00.
Took all the fun out of the hobby
when solid states took over.
I built a lot of solid state stuff but
soon it became foolish.
So, if you have Tupperware, your rich!
Heheh
Another thought.
Don't keep that stuff in too warm
an environment, nor forever.
I confess to having used flour
I had on hand that was years old
and no bugs but that isn't good.
I was just being cheap.
I had about 50 pounds altogether
of asst still sealed bags of King
Arthur flour of all kinds and refused
to lose it until I realized I was never
going to use certain types.
So I threw out a bunch and bought
new what I now use.
My problem is finding 25lb bags like
I used to.
Buy the quantities you feel you can
use in a month and use that then
buy more, if that is practical.
In my case it is not so I buy big when
I go.
Next month I will buy a 20 or 25 pound
bag of Caputo 00 and two ten pound
bags of all purpose locally just to be
safe.
Kroger was out of Semolina the last time
I was there so will look next month.
I see I am going to have to buy large
on that too.
Can you glean enough info from all
this chatter?
Now I must tell you I made Pizza until
I thought I was going to be forced to
eat cold pizza for 3 days, yesterday
I made 6 pizzas and a large focaccia.
Not on a level of Louanne's but unusually
large.
I don't eat focaccia much so made it with
a girl friend in mind.
I gave it to her and she seamed happy.
I'll learn Monday if that happiness turned
to horror or joy.
Heheh
No more pizza left so I think I'll have
pasta today because if I make pizza
I will be forced to make a large quantity
again and that means eating way too
much again.
It's really just me here.
No really a baker here.
I just want to make really great pizza and
pasta, that's all.
Not really a chef anymore either so
I just cook to eat but I like what
I eat to have really great flavor, flavor
of the old world.
Stuff I recall from early childhood them
my teens.
Man, those were the best years of my
life for fine dining, really super fine
dinning!
Hope your turkey day was great!!!
