Yeah, it's getting late, but I have some Beit Alpha cucumber seed from Baker Creek; there's about a dozen seeds left....also a few Chinese Yellow seeds. These are from last year; and if anyone wants them, you can have them free.

Bella, did you like the Beit Alpha? I've never grown them, but I think they are similar to the Amira hybrid I used to buy and loved so much.

The only way I liked them is sliced and in ice water. They get really crunchy, kinda like an apple. As for the taste, they didn't really have the juiciness and taste of other cukes.
I will say they were a refreshiing treat in the very hot weather, tho.

C'mon, somebody must need these? I have others that I need to plant this year before they lose any semblance of viability. It's not like before when I had lots of places to plant all these things...But I sure hate to see seed just go to waste... Bella, put some names in a pot and draw one...Then send them to the Winner

But they just aren't that good, bluelace....at least, for our tastes anyway. They will grow on the edge of the woods just fine, and maybe we'll get something out of them. NOT gonna go to waste, lol

You have your seeds so well organized! Mine are either in a large tin or in glass jars in the fridge... The pages in the binder... are they regular photo pages with 9 pockets per side of the page? Or are they specially made for seed saving?

I recently converted to a binder setup like Liebling uses. I love it. I used to stuff all my seed packets into big ziplocs, mason jars, and plastic bins. Inevitably they'd end up a mess and I could never find what I needed and never knew what I had. Now my binder is neat and organized; the seeds packets stay in place and in order. I used the inserts they sell for displaying collectors' cards (baseball cards, Pokemon, etc.). There are 9 clear pockets per side of the page. Packets of inserts are available cheap at Walmart/Target/etc., and sometimes you can find them at the everything's a dollar-type places. Most seed packets can be folded in half and they will fit right in. A few vendors use over sized or oddly-shaped envelopes which don't fit well in the card slots. I repackage those seeds into my own envelopes. I lose the pretty pictures that way, but fitting the seeds fit into my binder is more important. The only seeds that won't work as well are big packets of bulky seeds like peas, beans, and corn. You can split them up into several of your own envelopes and use more than one slot in your binder. Or, if you get a binder with side pockets, you can fit a couple of those bigger packs in there. But I still have to keep a few things (like my lifetime supply of Clemson Spineless Okra seeds and cilantro seeds!) in separate jars. Speaking of my lifetime supply of Clemson Spineless okra seeds...please see my next post.

Seeds I'm Looking For: ***Three stars means I especially want this seed. *One star is for everything else.
Warm-Season Vegetables: *Artichoke, Imperial Star (or any other artichoke that can be grown as an annual) *Cowpea/Southern Pea/ Field Pea - White Acre or a Cream type ***Cucumber, Cool Breeze, Sweet Success, or other parthenocarpic variety (for pickling mostly) *Pepper, Hot - a big Ancho type, for making rellenos. *Pepper, Sweet - Yellow or Orange bell *Pepper, Sweet - Red Marconi, red bell, or another thick-walled sweet red pepper for raw use ***Summer Squash, Zucchini - any parthenocarpic variety (I plan to grow it under insect netting, since the SVBs are terrible here) *Watermelon, Seedless Sugar Baby or another seedless type (before someone chimes in about how much better tasting the seeded heirlooms are...the kids prefer seedless watermelons, and I grow watermelons for them)
Cool-Season Vegetables: *Broccoli - any ***Carrots, any sweet/non-bitter ones, fun colors are nice to encourage the kids to eat them but orange is cool, too *Kohlrabi *Pak Choy, especially the smaller or baby types ***Peas, Wando *Radishes, especially Daikon types *Swiss Chard
Herbs: *Tarragon *Rosemary
Flowers/Ornamentals: *Marigolds, any dwarf type *Nasturtiums, any
Seeds I Have to Trade: **UPDATED 1/27/13** *These are commercial seed unless noted as my saved seed. *In most cases I have roughly half a commercial packet to trade. If I have an especially large or small amount available, I've mentioned it. *None of my close neighbors had a vegetable garden last year, as far as I know. Odds are good that my saved seed is pure, but I didn't bag blossoms or take other precautions, so I can't make any guarantees.
Warm-Season Crops: *Eggplant, Black Beauty, 2009 seed *Melon, Sierra Gold cantaloupe - 2012 seed *Melon, small muskmelons - These are saved seeds from a small (~2lbs) but fragrant and tasty melon I bought at Sam's in 2011, labeled "Mel'Orange." I grew a few seeds out last year and they were extremely similar to the Sam's melon. Obviously your results could vary, but I think your chances are pretty good...and the seeds are free. Vines are fairly short (~6ft) with relatively small leaves, so this would be candidate for growing on a trellis. Just to be clear, the seeds I am offering are from the original melon I bought at Sam's. (I did not save any seeds from my growout, since I had other cantaloupes growing nearby.) *Okra, Clemson Spineless - My saved seed from 2012. *Pineapple Tomatillo, Physalis pruinosa - This fruit appears to be very similar to Aunt Molly's Ground Cherry (my saved seed from 2012 - I have lots of this seed available) *Squash, Summer: Horn of Plenty yellow straight neck squash, 2012 seed *Squash, Summer - Reward Zucchini, 2012 seed *Tomato, Black Altai - 2012 seed, only have a few of these *Tomato, Bush Goliath - 2009 seed *Tomato, Martino's Roma - 2009 seed *Tomato, Sweet Million - 2009 seed *Watermelon, Tasty Sweet (seedless red icebox type) - 2012 seed
Herbs: *Basil, Sweet Basil - 2012 seed *Chives - 2009 seed, but it germinated well in spring 2012 *Cilantro/Coriander - my saved seed from spring 2012 - I have a LOT of this seed, feel free to ask for a bunch *Garlic Chives - 2009 seed, but it germinated well in spring 2012 *Parsley - 2 varieties of Italian flat-leafed, one is 2009 seed and the other is 2012, both viable and I can't tell the difference between them in appearance/taste *Sage - 2012 seed
Let me know if anyone wants to trade anything.
And hey, if money's tight and you need a little gardening cheer, send me a PM.

Mine are in the card ones lol I've never seen them at target or Walmart but office max lol I have zip pouch things for the larger and old plastic packs *everything* goes into the uniform packs and any info/nice seed packs get saved together in a bucket lol so I can reference them together just like my plant tags are kept together in a journal notebook thing lol

I like that binder idea for seeds. For years I used an old spice rack thingy bob--- little lars set into a spinning holder--- took up too much room on my counter besides I prefer my counter tops free of appliances etc. On the jar lids I simmply would use masking tape to write the seed name onto. Then our collection grew so now its here in a box and another box with more--- gets confusing to find and keep up with where the boxes are.... so now gonna find me a binder and start over---

Your seed packet binder idea is so cool & organized! I looked on Amazon & found 4 pocket page protectors that are used to hold postcards. They're fairly reasonably priced & will hold just about any seed packet, regardless of size. I'll also look hard at some of my old photo albums... Maybe I can buy the new pages, put the photos in them & use the old pages for my seed packets. Get 2 jobs done at the same time! ;D
