so whatcha growin next year camo? A lot less than this year! Really won't know for sure till Feb. or March when I get the seeds out, but I'm pretty sure Purple Dog Creek will be one of the pink tomatoes. I still have 8 plants out there producing. They are a couple Purple Dog Creek, Brandywine-Glicks, Amazon Chocolate, Bear Creek, Dana's Dusky Rose, and Limbaugh's Legacy and a volunteer pink. The other 72 have been pulled and their cages stored for the winter. Still have a few rows of leeks out there too. Will certainly have more of them again as well as shallots, onions and garlic. That is, if I'm still able to maintain a garden...God willing.

Thank you, Camo, for all the lists!
I have some Milka's Red Bulgarian 'maters that are actually getting quite big, though still green, at long last! Seeds from Wintersown, planted late, but IF they get all the way to red I'll be happy!

whr yu hiding at camo?smiles Not hiding, just busy. Trying to get things done before winter shows up, although the last few days it feels like it might be here. High's in the low 40's and damp. We've had 30 inches of rain since the earthquake. Luckily, I already cleared off the tomato cages and stored them for the winter. Spending more time in the kitchen too. The past week has seen 7qts. of stuffed cabbage made, a tasty roast beef done in the same method as I do round cuts. (preheat oven to 500 degrees, while seasoning roast, drop to 475 degrees then add roast and cook for 7 minutes/lb. Turn oven off and do not open door for 2 1/2 hours). Remove and let rest another 1/2 hour before slicing. Yesterday, I made a very large bowl of seafood salad. large shrimp, crab, fusilli pasta, chopped celery, chopped shallot, mayo and spices. With these cooler temps, and still getting rain so far this month, I just might be tempted to make another potful of stuffed cabbage today. One of my recipes that still gets prepared in a large dutch oven instead of the Living Well pressure cooker. Then too, I gotta start some Pane Siciliano dough. Enjoy! Camo

October in minnesota. we hit 88 degrees yesterday. of all things, my siberian tomatoes have come back, and have set heavy fruit sets again. they are all determinates that shriveled in the heat wave. I as ready to yank them out but just have not found the time or inclination to actually do it. If a heavy freeze holds off I might get a second heavy set off of them 4 months after the first. No rain here in two months though. Those roots must be deep
Want to share some of that rain Camo?
Tom

Tom, That's great news on the Siberian's...Good Luck! I wish I could have shared some of that rain. Yesterday was the first day we had without rain in...well over a month. Today is also going to be sunny! It was 39 degrees this morning though. Should warm up throughout the day and actually be in the high 80's by the weekend. Enjoy! Camo

About 88 here too today. I've got a few of the other tomatoes setting, but early girl is (are?) the only ones going crazy. I've got some tomato hornworms trying to get going. I've got some caterpillar killer for them...

Well, I did it. Hate to admit it, but I couldn't help myself. It's not even winter yet, although it certainly feels like its here already. I broke down and bought some tomatoes at the supermarket. I know...but they looked so pretty. Good size, nice color, didn't feel hard as rocks. Price? More than I'd like to admit spending. I bought 4...best part of a ten dollar bill. While they certainly weren't garden fresh heirlooms like I'm used to, they were better than nothing at all. Especially when you consider that anything ripe from the gardens is at least 6 months away yet! Did I enjoy them? You bet I did! With Zatarain's creole seasoning, with grapeseed oil and white balsamic vinegar, with sliced mushrooms and mozzerella cheese. Now if I could just find some fresh sweet corn to enjoy with butter and zatarains. Enjoy, and have a Merry Christmas! Camo

Glad to hear from ya there Camo, and to you and yours a very Merry Christmas. I hear ya about the tomatos us junkies have it pretty tough this time of year. I picked up a 2lb container of "Zima" tomatos (Yellow Cherry) the other day, not bad at all in a salad with white balsamic and some feta.
I just picked up a used greenhouse the other day for a good price maybe by this time next year I'll have it up and growing maters thru the winter months, I hope.

To all those that requested seed, Seeds have been mailed out as of yesterday afternoon. One of the bad things about cutting back on tomato plants is I don't have near the amount of seeds to share as I used to. Therefore, there are some that didn't get what they requested as they were too far down on the list. I only saved 4 of each variety I want to plant for myself as I'm cutting back even further than last year. Those that received seeds...wishing you the best with them; those that didn't get their requests filled, sorry, I did the best I could. If you received seed, please share with others in the future. This looks to be my last year saving seeds for others. Happy gardening! Camo

Although my e-mail doesn't allow me to send or receive e-mails, ( I can access the internet), I am still receiving many requests for seeds in PMs from many different tomato forums. Along with snail mail requests from those I've sent seeds to in the past. I have sent out all the seeds I can send, I just don't have anymore! Last year I cut back to only 80 tomato plants, from the hundreds I used to grow each year, and I just don't get as many seeds as I used too. So, many did not get seeds this year...sorry! This coming season, I plan on much less...10-12 plants, thats all! Will probably take me out of the seed sharing business, completely. Please refrain from sending more requests for seeds as I just don't have anymore. Thanks! Camo

I'm planning on only 10-12 plants this season. Hopefully not much in the way of surprises. I know Purple Dog Creek will be the first I start, that tomato really impressed me last year. I did save some Kumato seeds from those I've been eating just to see what they do. Other than that, probably Liz Birt, Cowlick Brandywine. DDR, Amazon Chocolate, Sandul Moldovan, Brandywine -Glicks, Bear Creek and DDRXBW-C. Then, lots of Shallots, Garlic, Leeks and Onions. Some herbs and that's it. Hope you and everyone else has a successful growing season and a fabulous year! Camo

The ground had dried out enough to try getting the tiller going and work up some garden today! Well, that was the plan. The tiller was soon filled with gas and oil and it started on the second pull. I ran it over to Garden #1 and worked my way up the eastern side. (about 45 feet). Then turned around and came back down again. Then went along the southern edge heading west. Usually goes about 80 foot but I'm gonna cut back this year so only went about 25 ft before turning north again. Ran right up to the northern edge and turned east to complete what was going to be the perimeter. I then came back inside where I had just tilled. It was beginning to sprinkle some, but not enough to stop me now. As I ran across the southern border again and turned northward once more. Got about half way when the skies opened up. I threw a half drum over the tiller and tried to run for the front door. My legs said...NO Running!!! I was soaked by the time I reached the front door. By the time I got my muddy boots off and got out of my dripping clothes, I looked out the windows and could see the tiller in what already looked like a lake. It was really coming down in bucketfulls. I guess it will be a couple days till I finish tilling the garden. I was glad to at least get the tiller going and a slight start on tilling. Enjoy! Camo
