Lemon Drop and Chocolate Habenero are both started and waiting till it gets warm. Hot peppers hate the cold allmost as bad as eggplants.

My pepper babies haven't even experienced the great outdoors yet. I'll probably start daytime acclimating them starting later this week. They probably won't go in the ground for a couple of weeks yet. These occasional chilly nights just don't seem to want to let go this season.

The sweet peppers are up, both sweet and hot paprikas are up, the hot peppers are not buying into the generated heat though. They seem to know that while that groundhog is out looking around he still has his ridge runners on. They will come up soon enough though.

Got seedlings ready to go when the weather cooperates. The few I risked setting out early croaked in the last cold spell. (Note to self: pick up Wall-o-Waters on clearance this summer.) What I still have are:
Bells: King Arthur (red) Red Beauty (red) Early Sunsation (yellow)
Jalepenos: Chichimeca Senorita
Other Hots: Ancho 101 Big Jim Tabasco

Lemondrop and Chocolate Habaneros will be planted within the next hour. They'd allready be planted but I broke my shovel right after I planted the first 2 maters this afternoon.

Wow...shovel-breaking dirt makes me glad for my sand!
This weekend I planted out: Ancho Big Jim Chichimeca (big jalepeno type) Senorita Jalepeno Tabasco
Red Beauty (red bell) King Arthur (red bell)
I am waiting for more ProMix to arrive to fill containers so I can plant the Early Sunsations (yellow bell). The ProMix should be here Tuesday, but I will be crazy busy midweek, so it might be late week or into the weekend before they get planted.
Stratcat also sent me seeds recently for two kinds of ornamental purple peppers. I am waiting for them to come up...I hope to put them in the front flower bed when they are big enough.

Trying to pop out some roots. When ever you fertilize a garden well trees try to sneak their roots over and steal it, 4 peppers and 4 mater planted. Got 3 extra mater plants. Still got the basil, cinnamon basil, sweet pepper and eggers to go. Had to take a break and prune fertilizer thief trees and pick up pine cones.

Ah, I thought you had rocks or hard clay. I hear you about the tree roots - years ago I prepared a nice rich bed for shade plants on the side of my house. It's now completely full of roots from the neighbor's oak tree. Nothing but cast iron plants grow there now. At least I don't have to weed it anymore.

oh tree robber roots --hate them--- fought them for a couple years in a front flower bed ---ended up losing the fight so moved the bed and just a year or 2 later the dang tree up and died---lol---- guess when I moved that bed I cut so many roots out it never recovered . I now have some shrubs in that spot but not really a flwbed ...
I ahve the hardest time getting the cast iron plants to live --- maybe to much sun where I als planted them.. I jsut may give them another try over in that shady corner...hummmmm should have thunk of that before. DDDDUUUUUHHHH

Exactly. My cast iron plants stay really contained, because when one pops up around that corner where it gets some sun, it promptly croaks.
I have seen people grow them in sun, but they must water them like mad to keep them alive at all. Even so, all of the ones I have seen growing in sun look awful...all pale and scorched on the leaf margins. You can almost hear them crying for SHADE.

The pepper plants are small but oh well. I'll set out a few tomorrow if the schedule allows. Many of them were inside until today because they are growing slowly, especially the Aji Dulce. For pepperoncini, they look sickly as soon as they go outside. Banana peppers might be the better way to go next time.

That's pretty. I bet it is really spectacular when everything is going full steam.
Isn't it tricky to get in there to pick the peppers, though?

Thank you Laura but to answer your question ? Not at all I leave a small opening between the flowers and the peppers just big enough So I can water and pull weeds as needed
