I like fishing. Favorite is fly fishing, but I don't get many opportunities. Hubs has been teaching me to fish for bass with rubber worms. Usually when we go to the bait store I just buy red wigglers for the compost bin. Havne't killed them yet

I use to love Sturgeon fishing on the Columbia river, Man!nothing quite like hooking into one of those monsters, but once they allowed gill netting for them, the population took a noise dive. thank god they banned the gill netting and the numbers are slowly rebounding, they also made it catch and release until recently. I hope to be able to catch one again someday...ever have Sturgeon jerky? Man! it's a taste treat you will never forget.

Rocky Mountain cutthroats are my favorite, we have caught them fly fishing and with a rod and reel. The best part is being out in the wilderness. They are a native trout to Colorado and they taste yumy over an open campfire. But since we moved to Oklahoma, I'd have to say bass are really good to eat, Unless your husband hogs catching them all. I can stand right next to him and he just pulls them in. They are tricky to hook and as much as he tries to teach me how to snag them I am not a good at it as he is.

Hubs really enjoys bass fishing. I also enjoy it, but my current goal is to catch a gar. I just want to see one of those up close. Had a small one by accident once, but it got off. Hehehe my personal fish tale

Gar is a big fish, I believe they can obtain a length of around 10 ft or so, they can be eaten but are kinda boney and the taste is just so-so, not great. but not bad either. the largest I ever caught was a little over 3ft, I cut the line to let him go because I didn't want to take a chance with there razor sharp teeth. When I say the fish is boney, it may be because I have only eaten one small fish of around 2ft bigger fish may be better, I don't really know.

I've been reading alot about aquaponics and checking out youtube videos. Yellow perch are one of the fish that can be raised with success in these systems. If interested check out the Growing Power videos on youtube. They are inspiring!

Elk season isn't till late Oct. or Nov. We just go on the ranch, there's always several dozen- hubs (or kids) know to get me a nice tender cow elk, past breeding. That's what we eat all year long

I fish all the time! Caught some beauties lately but not enuf to bother cleaning and fileting so I let the grand daughter toss them back... I even like catching the tiny ones! But my personal favorite to eat is also the yellow perch-the only way I get big ones is to catch the minnows in the lake and use those... they don't seem to like worms.. lol [/font]

That's what we eat all year long we got a bunch of Elk around here too...along with Deer, my brothers neighbor owns the hill that he has let grow back into a natural forest, it's the only place around that has old growth Oak and pine. This is also the reason we have such a bounty of different types of bees around. It amazes me when I hike up that hill all the true natural beauty that abounds there, then to spend the night in the cabin. its a place to refresh the soul, get back in touch with one's self and to clean out the cob webs of the mind...I love that hill. From my place, the hill doesn't look that big...until you start hiking up it. I'm very grateful we have a neighbor who cares so much that he has made it his soul purpose in life.

surf fishing for flounder with bull minnows. Put the weight on bottom with a drop loop a foot or so higher and hook the minnow through both lips. Using my 7 foot Ugly Stick through out and reel in slowly. If it comes near a flounder it will strike.
