Our baby chicks hatched in Jim's incubator ---- hatched Feb. 27th -- we kept them inside in plastic totes -- weather was so unsettled during this time frame. We set 36 eggs in the incubator and hatched out 24--- from our laying hens . chicks and their private security guard.. Oscar spent most of his days sitting and watching the chicks . He kept trying to jump up on the tble so we moved a foot stool over for him to sit on. their new home --- 3 weeks old --- Jim finally finished their hatch , its on the front porch since we have more rain in the forecast. This hutch is for them till they are large enough to join the adult chickens in the regular chicken house & yard Jim opened their door to take this shot and guess who jumped in . He really doesn't bother them jsut wants to be near them---weird dog...

Aww....that's sweet. Wonder if he has some herd dog instincts?
Newborn chicks are so adorable. The pictures always make me wish I could keep a few laying hens.

I had the chicks out in the yeard one day---in a make shift pen---it was nice and warm and sunny that day.... Oscar jumped in and herded them all into a corner than laid down near them.... One walked over near him and he licked its face--- I think schnasers were orginally a hunting type dog-- cant remember about the breed. Will have to look it up...

Of course, he's also thinking " got to protect my dinner... tasted it but it's not done yet!"
