For what its worth Alan Bishop's home grown goodness with over 3000 members is slowly dieing from Alan's absence these past couple years.

Garrett's personality is a big part of what drives this site and differentiates it from other forums. That's not to say that the other members don't matter - of course they do - but when he is around, his infectious enthusiasm, sense of humor, and willingness to leap right into big projects with both feet really liven the place up. He also really knows how to make people feel welcome here. As is often the case with forums (especially smaller ones), he's the glue that holds this board together.
When he's too busy with life to post, there aren't enough prolific and outgoing members to keep very much activity going. It gets much too quiet, and people drift off to other places.

I know a lot of people on here post at many sites. I do not see a ton of activity at any of the 3 I go to. Yep the guy in charge is important but to me not mandatory I just want to see and learn of other peoples successes and failures to hopefully help me become a better grower. How do you do it what works what I do like if you post a thread here in the wrong section you do not get scolded by the master posters of the board you should have put it here not on this page. I also like the fact many of us are from the southern region which is where I grow helps me with my growing enviroment.
I sure hope this site stays alive and active as I tire of the IDIG site arguing over color did you steal this from Greg etc...
I started postintg here because all are very nice friendly people trying to help each other with there own experiencies and I believe we can still do it and keep this place a fun and happy place to talk about our gardens and life whatever we want without politics of food and whatever.
Red did a great job with what he did here giving us a happy enviroment just to talk and discuss as we please about anything.

I quite agree, the tenor and discourse here is pleasant and helpful. To me, the hands on trials of arbor hobbyist growers is the meat of this forum group. If I slowed Garret down any (and it don't seem I did to me), it was to keep his success level up, not to discourage anybody. I'm hoping Garrets silences have more to do with taking A&P this year. Anatomy and Physiology is one of the "gut", nursing courses. When it is done, my hope is Garret will return. We have a couple good flower gardeners, a couple more arborists. Several good veggie gardeners. A-n-d one crazy old guy who chases stubby trees around with a pruner. We may or may not ever be of a size to draw out (of retirement) the internet gardener pioneers like Carolyn Male, Keith Mueller, or Prof. Dirt, who's mostly charitable encouragement first made this medium a place where both people and gardens grew.
