I need horsehair!
A year or so ago my ancient lace cushion suffered death by cat. It was up on a shelf, and the cat (Spike, an orphan Mandalay) thought it looked comfy. He leaped up onto it, and lo! we had a pile of cat, burst velvet, sawdust, horsehair, pins, about 4 dozen loaded lace bobbins, and several yards of unfinished Valencienne style lace. I swear I did not kill the cat though it was tempting.
I have tried modern fillings and they just are not right. I can get sawdust, or just make some. With DH learning lutherie lately I have sawdust. I need horsehair, or equivalent. Clippings, comb cleanings, whatever. Length is not an issue, curly is just fine, and in fact preferred if you have it. I can wash it myself, so as long as it is not nasty it works for me. The stuff is just stupid expensive to buy!
PM or email if you can help out and we will sort out what you need in return.

I might just post this (in a bigger typeface) at the neighborhood feed store.

I have checked at the local boarding stable and they have an arrangement with a jewelry maker that is of several years standing.
Our local feed store is combined with a craft store, and horsehair is already on their "swap for a discount" list. Dunno what kind of a discount folk get for bringing it in, but the price the store sells it at is horrific.
