I don't mean to be a downer, but standard office lighting isn't sufficient for tomato plants. They are going to get leggy. If it's a few seedlings, can you get at least a desk lamp with a grow-spectrum bulb to put over them?
Office temps are a factor, too. If your office is at 68F the seeds are going to be slow to germinate, and may rot in the cool, damp soil. 75F works, but 80-85F is optimum - do you have a spot heat source? (Note: Once the seedlings are up, temps in the 60s are just fine for growth. Tomatoes just need the extra heat to germinate well.)

grow them maters.... maters is pretty hardy...smiles I've germinated them in the front room in 50 degree temps but as linn mentioned....slowwwwwwwwww and some dampening off. my more immediate concern ig is how long till you can plant? you could always trench yer foot tall month to month and a half old maters? but is yer area ready by end of april? I've still got my soldiers inside. waiting till early april. weather is too wonky here yet. good luck! mnnnnnnnnnnnnn fresh maters.ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

As for lighting Greenhouse Megastore has the jump start 2ft long grow light for 55 bucks. Also they have a nice seed starting package to get you started. The included heat mat, wonder soil, and humidity dome of the Seed Starter Kit Plus will get your seedlings started quickly, while the Grow Light with one-touch height adjustability will provide them with the light they need when they need it. Great for plants that need more room to grow. The cost is 85 bucks. Indoor Seed Starter Plus with Jump Start Grow Light System link

Mom is having to use a 3 wheel walker now. We took out the bathtub/shower and are installing a step in shower because she has problems stepping into a regular tub. This lets us add grab bars also. Dad is 83 and has a pacemaker. Keeping up this place with 5 acres, a rental house with 2 acres, and a rental house with a half acre can wear him down. The tilling is done though and if my brother in law will come do the sheet rock maybe things will slow down.

My tomatoes are all snuggled into their Earthboxes - the last one was planted on March 25th or 26th, if I remember right.
The two that were planted earlier have baby maters. The biggest baby mater is the size of a large grape, on the Korol Gigantov. That plant has lots of bloom clusters about to open, too. Siberian Tiger (the other early planted one) has a lot of blooms open also. Some of the others are opening their first blooms, and the rest have bloom buds.
Not a moment too soon, because the fruit set window here usually slams shut by Memorial Day or even before. So they need to be loading up ASAP.

My tomatoes went out this afternoon. Dad put his 6 out last Saturday just in time for the frost, 4 survivors. I've got 3 spares I'll give him soon.

we could go back couple years was planting in ground early March here in Dallas cover a couple times for cold snaps this year and last still cold had 15 in ground came home from work this morning frost and 36 degrees rinsed them off but probably lost them still have about same amount in containers that I moved back into house before I went to work last night so they are fine. The ones I planted were getting to big many had small maters on them.

Well all 6 of Dad's maters ended up surviving. I usually have 2 or 3 plants in a cup and at least 1 survived in each bunch. He still went ahead and planted the 3 extras. He's going to have maters for days especially after we put several pickup loads of leaves in the garden in the fall then tilled them in in the spring. The same maters at my house are doing good.

Lost all my tomatoes and peppers the night of the eclipse back in April. Unfortunately had to take what the local nursery was selling. Got some Mountain Pride and Green Zebras but the rest are dull kinds. I hope everyone else fared better with their transplants.

Tomatos are doing fine. Eggplants and habaneros are a different story.
