Well Dad has some golf ball sized maters on the plants that I gave him. Since he said that they are round, they would have to be that Iraqi mater Basrawyi. I have high hopes for that one. All I have is hot cherry peppers and mexibelle peppers and some blueberries if the varmints don't steal them.

Best tomatoes are sweet 100 and Early Girl-- the frost took out everything I started from seed, so that was what I was able to find. A mountain pride and a couple of green zebras have several tomatoes each, so I'm looking forward to that! Started some seeds for fall- have about 22 of them, mostly blue berries and violet jasper, will see if they produce anything & taste good! Didn't mulch this year but they are right by the sunflowers, seems shade makes more difference than does the mulch plus it's easier to weed without it.

The best for the year is Cour Di Bue red oxheart. He does like the black Trifele though.

While its a bit early to be starting tomato seeds up here, I did start a couple different shallot seeds, leeks, bunching onions and scallions as well as common chives from seed a week ago Saturday. Planning on starting lots of spinach and similar greens very soon. I tilled and laid out my tomatoes for this coming season last fall. As it stands now: Barlow Jap Bear Creek Brandywine-Cowlick's Brandywine-Glick's Cherokee Purple Dana's Dusky Rose Dester-* Dixiewine-* Earl's Faux German Johnson-Benton Strain original R.L. German Johnson-Benton Strain unknown black cross P.L. (most likely Bear Creek cross); calling it Barlow's Best Black Margaret Curtain-* McKinley-* Mountain Fresh F-1 * Mountain Fresh Plus Not Purple Strawberry-* Rebel Yell-* Red Brandywine-P.L. Red Pennsylvanian Tarasenko6 Texwine-* Turkey-* Weisnicht's Ukrainian-*
*- varieties I haven't grown before...compliments of D.S.
Big push this year on spinach and other greens and veggies like squash, beans, cauliflower and broccoli...even Brussels sprouts. Hoping for an early spring, they're calling for more snow tomorrow and the next day. adding to all the snow and ice still on the ground. Oh well! enjoy! Camo

The 52 pound puppy has learned how to turn on the space heater in my computer room. Chews just about anything up, I have to keep my boots on to protect my toes. Today he was dragging around my machete and even managed to undo the safety strap and pull it out of it's scabbard. Next week is a first for him. He's going to have to be boarded for 3 days while I'm out of town on business.

Got everything killed by frost last year and most the year before so starting later. In a harsh microclimate here, had frost on April 15 and on Veterans' day last year.

I grew mainly hearts this year.I really like Donskoi, although I am having a bit of a time finding more seed.I grew:
Donskoi (of course)
Anna Russian
Kosovo
and regulars:
Purple Dog Creek
Cowlick (still lovin them Cowlicks thanks Camo)
SNFLA
and 2 cherry types:
Black Cherry and Tommy Toe.
Didn't get a good return tho,as all the Toms got diseased and were pulled up.I will try several in containers here directly and see if I can get happier maters.

Seek No Further Love Apple.
It really produces quite well, and sets some large tomatoes.Flavor for me here was a little lacking, but was a good one for production.I got it from a great guy at: Tomatoville.

Anybody ever grow a tomato that looks like a bell pepper on the inside? you know, seeds on the top and hollow on the inside?...or a fuzzy tomato? Yes! a tomato with a fuzzy skin on the outside...if you have I would like to know your thoughts on weather they are worth growing flavor wise. I'm growing a Yellow and white version of the pepper tomato and one of the peach tomato's and just looking for some input
