I'm looking for some recommendations for sources for bare root trees. There are several to be found when doing a google search, but how do you know which to trust. If anyone has a recommendation I would appreciate it.

It depends on where you are. if you are in zone 3 to 6 I'd look at all of the following wagonwheel orchard, St Lawrence Nursery, OIKOS Tree Crops.

I'll give them a look, but I'm in southern Va at the line between 7a and 7b.

Bay Laurel Nursery in California has excellent stock. They are not cheap, however, and their shipping charges are steep. But I got such fine, strong healthy trees that I would not hesitate to order from them again.

Garrett, that is a great site with a great selection, but they don't sell retail. And none of their vendors are east of Texas.

Has anyone ordered or heard anything about Stark's nurseries? They bought a company that is (almost) near my house (Miller Nursery). I've always thought about starting some fruit trees.

I have never ordered from them, since they don't sell very much for low-chill areas like mine. But I have heard good things about them. Here is the Garden Watchdog page about them if you want to read some customer reviews: davesgarden.com/products/gwd/c/189/
