I love the land. Always have. The love of gardening and farming has been part of me since birth. It's in my genes. My relatives farm land that has been in the family since the 1700’s. The original swatch was a section of land that was part of a King’s Grant to my xxxxxx grandfather (not sure of the exact #). More land was added to eventually include more than 6,000 acres which couldn't and wouldn't be sold for many generations. During the revolutionary war, that same grandfather was a Tory, a person who remained loyal to the King. He was a major landowner in the area and contributed to the area’s economy. The locals liked him but didn’t like his political views; they wanted him to join them and be part of the revolution, but he refused. They wanted to punish him but didn’t want to disrupt his farm operation, so in retaliation they seized his ownership of the property and gave it to his wife, my xxxxxx Grandmother, who was a Patriot and supported the revolution. I can’t imagine living in that household, with two such opposing views, but the two of them continued running the farm. After the war, my xxxxxx Grandfather demanded that my xxxxxx Grandmother give him back his land so he could once again be the “owner”. But she LIKED being the owner and told him “NO!” She stood her ground, but the local government overrode her decision and returned the land to her husband. Gotta love that spirit!! I'm positive that's where I got my love of the land.

Sounds like you take after that great, great+, gran, Rozie. :-) Old Scottish tradition was that the women owned the land.

In looking up my family tree, I too have found many generations of farmers going back to very early years here in America. This was interesting to me because for the longest time I only knew of family that came over beteen the two world wars and the rumored Native American ancestor (I have now found more than one Native branch on my tree). I've loved the land from a very young age. Always felt it "talked" to me. I still do and I find that it makes more sense than most people.

I'm the first generation that wasn't raised on a farm on both sides. With the garden and the grandparents I came mighty close though.
