Its a balmy -3 today in upstate NY! Up about 15 degrees from yesterday! Anyway, this cold weather makes me think of warmer times. My garden is in the backyard roughly 40' X 30'. It has woods & fields on two sides of the garden (these go for miles). So I have varmint troubles. The past couple years I have been building a perennial border around the garden filled with things that bunnies & deer do not like to eat (lavender, Egyptian onions, tiger lilies, irises, daisies, black berries with prickers etc). Last year I thought it was sufficient enough to tear down the nasty rusty rabbit fence that was falling apart anyway (The bunnies would find low spots and burrow underneath the fence to get in the garden). Well, those nasty varmints either ran through "weak spots" in the perennials or hopped over them and decimated my beans & broccoli.
I'm planning on getting another rabbit fence this year, but any other suggestions? I do have two doggies that come up with me to the garden. I'm afraid shih tzu scent deters nothing!

LOL, other than rabbit stew, I'd say the fence is your best bet.
I've never used the repellents. Some may work, but I live in a high-rainfall climate where no repellent is going to last very long so I have been very skeptical about trying any, for fear that I would go broke from having to constantly re-apply.

I think fence & rabbit stew are my best bets. I live in an area that gets lots of rain too. So I've never tried the repellents either.

Sounds like you live in a little bit of heaven! Rabbits and deer are daily visitors to my garden. I gave up and planted their favorite foods on the outside edge of the garden. They usually don't come in any farther.
