I just bought myself a little orchard! Well at least the trees for Valentine's Day! Bought them from Starks: Disease Resistant Apple Collection (Enterprise, Goldrush & JonaFree), Sweet Cherry Collection (Starkrimson & Stella), Best Fruit Trees for Canners Collection (Lodi & Winesap apples, Bartlett & Starking Delicious pears, Elberta Queen Peach & Montmorency Cherry) and a Black Current (didn't have that one in a collection!) So I'll have a bouncing baby orchard and (most likely) a very sore back the end of March!

Is it bad that I'm already thinking canning & dehydrating all the produce? LOL. How's that saying go? Don't count your apples before they're??? i did try and grow apple trees a few years ago, but the deer and bunnies got them. I need to do some more reading on caring for them (I have a month before they're shipped). I'm going to plant them closer to the house so I keep a closer eye on them.

Ooh, congratulations on the orchard! I have a few fruit trees myself, and I'd have a bunch more if I had room. Sounds like some lovely varieties, and a nice selection - apple, pear, peach, cherry, and black currant. Oh, and if your peach tree is anything like mine, plant it and stand back! I feel I need to warn you, though: growing fruit trees is addicting! Once you pick your first tree-ripened fruit and take a bite while the fruit is still warm from the sun, you'll be hooked.

Thanks so much. I'm afraid there's going to be a lot of "hurry up & wait." Right now I'm waiting for them to come here, then wait a year or two for fruit...~sigh~ I'm kind of an instant gratification kind of girl.

ROFL! I have to wait for the permafrost to thaw before I can start digging. There's the potential for a big snowstorm on Wednesday. Very tired of winter!
