I'm thinking of getting an electronic reader, but I don't know anything about them. How do you get books on them? How do you preview the books? Are they expensive? Would they work up here in the boonies?

You download them over the internet. I'm ethically opposed to electronic books though. A hardback book printed on nonacid paper might last 100 years or more. Who remembers albums, eight tracks cassettes, cds, mp3s? How long will the Kindle be here? What happens when all book stores are out of business? What if a good author P's off the Kindle people?

You download over the internet , some books are free , some cost ... I have a mac I downloaded a reader on my computer , not sure if it works I havn't used it yet .... The thing is I heard if you buy the off brand they are just as good, if you really want a book , you can buy it , or you can do it with a kindle .. it is up to you, and how much you read. My parents had sooooooo many books we had a garage sale and sold them for 1.00 a piece .. My grand daughter loves to read , she got a Kindle for xmas ... She loves it!! Most of the time the books are cheaper thru kindle or e reader ...

I am an avid reader, and with this new job, I'm going to have some down time in the city, with nothing to do (since I hate the city- and will be spending most of my time off work in a little trailer, with 2 stations on tv), which is why I was wondering about the e readers. I agreee, I love books, mom taught us to read before we were in school- and my best summers in the AZ desert were spent reading BOXES of books from the monthly bookmobile as a kid......

You might not need to buy anything. My phone (Samsung Fascinate) has Kindle on it. I just go to the Amazon store to buy my books. I like it cause it's one less thing of mine sitting around for the kids to lose. I agree a real book is the best but it's nice not to have to carry a stack of books with me to read on a road trip.
