Before there was cable tv, I was sure I had the worst job ever. Then there were series like Deadliest Catch, or Dirty Jobs, which proved to me I was not alone.
My very worst (in my perception) job was at Ward Scientific*, specifically sizing and grading formalin soaked cats used for biology dissection. The only stronger thing than the scent of dead cat was the permeating and overpowering scent of formalin. That said ten minutes on the job I was too stoned by the formalin to notice the oppressive funk.
I had to shower immeadiately on return home, huh, who'd a thunk it.
That said, my youngest was sure after meeting one of the folks I worked with, that my years on a locked ward that, that had to be the worst job ever. His (my sons) objection was based on a single meeting with Ron. Ron was an eubulent six-foot ten inch tall man, who resided at the locked facility I worked at. Ron was loud, Ron spoke with his hands and his arms, and Ron filled a door from jamb to jamb. He was also gentle as a lamb. The son was sure (and said as much) that, what ever they paid me, it wasn't enough...
The one thing Ron couldn't roar his way through, was hardening of his arteries. He passed at barely fifty years of age.
*The full and correct name for Ward Scientific, is "Ward's Natural Science Establishment"
So what was your worst job ever?

Worst job I've ever seen? I was supervising an expansion of a sewage treatment plant. The contractor didn't listen to me when I told him to backfill evenly and in layers around the new tanks. He go fished and we let the sewage into the new tanks, Sure enough one section had shifted and the tank was leaking. One of the contractors had to put on a scuba dry suit and dive into a 30 feet deep concrete tank. There he had to use underwater grout to fix the leak. 30 feet down in a filled sewage plant.
My worst paying job? The present one with the boss I had for the first 14 years.

Seeing Dirty Jobs definitely makes me feel better about my job. I'm an environmental consultant. I test for asbestos (lab) and lead (field). Not the most glamorous, but not the dirtiest either.
Coppice, prepping the cats is right up there. I grew up with cats. When my parents found out I was allergic to cats, they thought about getting rid of me!!!

Some poor bugger(s), got to dig up, and haul away 7 million sets of bones from Parisian church cemetaries and stash them in the old underground lime quarries.
Makes me wonder who P.O'ed Napoleon off and got that job...
