Long ago in a far away NH village I grew corn in my back yard (on Main St). Every year as the crop would come near to ripe somebody would wander around in the patch, lodging much of it. But only visiting in the dark of night. The third time it happened I confronted one of the town cops, and told him in no uncertain terms that if anybody in the department had a hankering to see what I was growing, I demanded they come with my permission, but, only in broad daylight. I would happily provide herbal manuals if they needed to check if any of my crop were naughty ones.
Funny thing, they never came by in the daylight, and my corn never got knocked down again...

Yep that happened not far from me several years back. An older lady looked out her back window and saw the sheriffs department pulling up her willow leaf okra.
