Fly tying desk This desk belonged to my wife's father. It had seen its better day, but I figured I could breathe a little life back into it. It took me a month of spare evenings and weekends, but I sure do like it. I turned it into my fly tying desk. It had several coats of old stain and varnish, but I carefully removed them. Once I was down to bare wood, I saw that it was comprised of different species of wood. Nonetheless, I wasn't about to hide the beautiful wood with paint. I began to research stains to bring the different woods together. I chose one called Cabernet. Over the years the joints became loose and glue failed and came apart. I cleaned up and rebuilt the joints. As it turned out, I was able to rebuild and line everything back up. The following are before and after pictures. After the desk was moved into the house, I got a wild idea and decided to build 3 shelves to match it along with a pegboard back splash.
