Okay a friend of mine got a kindle and just loves it and has been getting books at Amazon for free! I was feeling left out and mentioned it on another site I visit... to my delight and surprise a member there said that I didn't need a kindle to get the free books from Amazon... they (amazon) have a kindle for PC option that is free and once you download it you can get any of their free books that you want and as many as you want to download!! WHY HAS NO ONE MENTIONED THIS BEFORE!? I do not know.. There were many books that I like-mystery romance and horror! and I downloaded 12 of them to try.. and once you get them, even if you are not on the internet you still get the whole book.
While this may not be new to everyone, it was to me! If I like it and use it more I may just get some of the gardening books that they sell by kindle too. Plus it will help cut down on the used book clutter I got going! Gonna have to donate some books..

I just found out about the Kindle for PC yesterday. But I didn't know Amazon had free books you could download. Thanks Em for that info. I'll be checking that out. I love to read but I have stacks of used books I've read that I have to do something with. This might be the answer to the excess book problem.

Also, Project Gutenberg has thousands available for free. I have a lot of the old classics on my iPhone. Such as Huck Finn, Dracula, the Count of Monte Cristo, etc.
They have books in just about every language and also some audio books.

aunty em- how do you do it? I am just frugal with my cash! I gotta pinch each penny till Lincoln screams! If there are empty cans in the parking lot or in the trash at school I pick them up and take them home.. every one here in MI is worth a dime... I'd don't care if folks think I am that cheap-I am. I am so clumsy that if I don't look down and watch were I am going I trip over stuff..(hence the broken toe a few weeks ago). but one good side-I always find money and jewelery laying around on the ground. Plus I am slowly learning how to find every freeby and bargain out there online. After posting about how jealous I was of my friend kindle another member told me about the free kindle for pc and Mojo Savings had a list of free books this month.. I just knew I had to try them. Most of the good deals I get come from advice from other good folks who like to save cash too. And I like to pass it along to others.

Seriously- how do you do it? I'm technologically challenged I am a bit of a slow learner but I used to fix older computers and that is what I went to school for.. But sheesh what I trained for was obsolete by the time I got out of school.
I just type in say--Free samples and go from there. or Free coupons. There are probably whole forums devoted to making the best buy or bargin and how to print the coupons and other things.
If you think of something you want to find cheaper or for free just ask me and I can try to point the way. I still have problems surfing the internet and have downloaded the wrong thing before but lucky me my baby brother is an IT guy for At&T so if I do something super stupid he can fix it. To start with the safe free samples stuff.. try going to Mojo Savings and clicking on "free samples" it will bring up a page of all the days free stuff... yesterday I got lucky and got in on free hair color from John Freida.. for me and my daughter-this is a voucher coupon that you can use in any store. I don't use hair color but my daughter does so now she will have two boxes. If you do the coupon thing.. Mojo has an email list you can join and it sends you links to all the downloadable coupons that are out that week... Since I do not work(other than baby sitting grand babies while mom works twice a week) I have the time to invest is searching for the good coupons and weekly flyers for our local grocery stores.. sure it is an hour or so a day work but I save at least 10 to 12 bucks a week on groceries and it is stuff I do use.. not just junk food. Like today-another forum I am a member of had a thread by a member who saw that for this weekend only Ace hardware had pint canning jars two dozen for $11! That is a total good deal.. I also had a coupon for buy two dozen jars get one box of extra lids for free.. But my hardware store (which used to be Ace/true value) is now only a True value and they didn't have the same sale.. So I was bit bummed and the manager and a couple other employees were standing there and I mentioned that I wished I had printed it out from the online ad.. then I could get walmart or meijer to "match price" for me..(which they readily do) The manager said "hold on a sec..." he ran into the office checked the price on line and told the gal there to Match the price for me!! Most big store chains will price match for you as long as you have the ad or like I do.. I take a picture of the shelf or price on my phone and then just show the manager.. that usually works well also. So for $11 plus tax I got 24 pint jars with rings and lids and another 12 lids for my canning this year.. I had wanted to do smaller jars as I use smaller portions lately(family all busy and gone) and can always open another jar if I need more. Never be afraid to ask if you can pre order stuff on sale by the case and if you might be able to pick it up cheaper due to no shelf stocking on their part.
Oh also look and see if your stores have customer card or coupon cards.. instead of printing coupons they have online coupons that you "clip" and it adds them to your "account" and all you do is swipe a card or put in your special number... I am a member of Meijer's Mperks which is an online coupon account.. every so often they send us special "$2 or $5" off coupons that just come off the total.. in fact hubby, son and I all have our own accounts(it is based on your cell phone number) and we all got the text you just got $2 don't forget to "clip it" online.. so I break up our groceries into three groups and we get an extra $6 off the groceries.. or if there is a good coupon(usually they only let you use each coupon once) for something we use we break it up into three and purchase each item under our three accounts. There are trick to every trade and I am planning on learning them all.. Meijer just says that it is one account per person so we are not breaking any rules yet...

I haven't got that far yet, but I got thru half a book last night and it doesn't hurt my eyes to read off the computer so I will be looking for more books and I might just order a couple of the garden ones that I have been wanting.. Like the Four Season Harvest by Elliot Coleman or Seed to Seed by Susan Ashworth I do know quite a lot on how to keep my seeds pure and how to save them but it never hurts to have back up. If I find any on gardening You guys here will be the first to know!

Gosh spring .... I am s trying to think of something and actually it is all about a signal you get off a satellite, That means they need a towere near you , I think there is a website you can go to for verizion tho to see if you can get a hotspot ...about 40 bucks a month, I forget how much it is to get the lil hot spot all set up .. You know there is always a certain charge for something , didn't seem like it was much tho ....There was another brand also to that was cheaper but cannot remember the name .. Do you live in an area where there is no cable?? I know Ido!! Pffttt!

Most fast food restaurants are offering free wi-fi now, so you might be able to go get a cuppa somewhere and download what you want ... of course, one-horse towns like where I live ain't got nuthin so fancyschmancy yet

I love my Kindle. And the library loves seeing me come in the door as I unload the tons of books I've got filling my shelves. I'll keep certain favorites but I'm not surrounded by books anymore.
I'm usually reading several at a time and it's nice just to click over to read another book and not have piles of them all over the house. I very seldom pay over 2.99 for any book I get through the amazon/kindle.

Just thought I might mention ... If you go to google and download Chrome (google's web browser) they also have a feature like the kindle for books.. not as good a selection, but there are free ones there also. All in all after using the kindle pc on my computer I got my wife a kindle for Christmas (she is a librarian) and she loves it.. The kindle has quality books for free and the best selection we've found so far. Their prices are also very cheap for the others.
