im a makeup artist... been doing it professionally for about 8 years now, started out working for Chanel, then MAC... just quit the retail scene back in June so I can freelance on my own doing weddings and such... tired of working nights, weekends, holidays... 8 years of that makes ya tired. my garden hated me too... lol

I use dark color eyeshadow as eye liner, applied with a sponge applicator with pointed tip. It gives a softer line than an actual eye liner.

thats a good trick! if you wanted it to be a tad more defined you could use a little angled brush too...

On those occasions I leave the island, I like the bare minerals or a product similar of a light eye shadow, I use organic or natural liner and mascara when I can get it. As for the facial makeup, I don't use anything else, no lipstick. I like homemade lip balms and my own products I make for my skin. Less is just....better. The wind styles my hair, the garden does my nails....

The fashion today is to highlight the eyes. However, I prefer the look of the 50s, highlighting the mouth. I wear plum colored lipstick, love wearing lipstick. I don't like blush. Most women do not apply it well. They would look better if they didn't use it.

I am hooked on homemade chapstick! A Sonoma Garden has a fantastic tutorial on how to make it. I like that is uses natural products. My little one has terrible eczema we have to be really careful with what she uses. I'm thinking about adding a little color to the next batch just for fun.

I don't wear makeup unless we're going out or something, then just use a light foundation usually.
Gotta chuckle when I think of the 60's makeup; I think eyeshadow was supposed to make your eyes more noticeable; but some women wore so much it just made their eyeLIDS very noticeable. ;D Then there was the white lipstick, or colors that practically glowed in the dark.
Anyone try that stuff that makes your eyelashes grow?? I wondered how that would sell; I read that it can change the color of the eyes. Spooky.

I've reached the age where makeup just sinks into the lines and makes me look older. Mascara and Lipstick only for me, thank you. I'm lucky enough that I've inherited clear skin and was taught how to care for it so I don't really need foundation.

I don't use it at all anymore. It irritates my eyes and I see no reason to waste money on it.

From your picture, you don't need makeup, Becky, you're pretty as is. Natural is better; and tho now they have the mineral makeup, we don't know what that might do to the skin, either. One thing good is I don't think there's as many chemicals in makeup as there used to be.

I honestly don't use much of it. No use to paint my nails when I'm usually outside and makeup just runs haha. I am very pale anyways so finding a shade that matches is often hard (even ivory is too dark) 0_0 I'm just a country girl, I feel no need for it. I have some mineral makeup but its the same that I have had for 5 year now and its not even half gone .

Garret, you are too funny. LOL
I just used tinted moisturizers. Then my mom got me going with the mineral makeup. Then several months later called up and told me about a Dr Oz program she saw where he said that the tiny nano particles in it are really bad to breathe. So I looked it up (EWG.org is a good resource for ingredient info) and sure enough it's true- hold your breath when applying or do like I started and mix up your own tinted moisturizer with the mineral powder and a nice face lotion.
I don't like thick foundation, but some sunscreen and a bit of camouflage are why I like the tinted moisturizers.

Ladies, for your hair.....this really works. Save the brown dry outer skin from onions, until you have about two cups. Then add water to cover (a cup or two) and simmer until skins are softened. Let cool, and use as a hair rinse after shampooing, pouring over the hair at least a couple of times. It will make your hair incredibly soft, and there will be no residual onion smell.
I've yet to try the red onion skins, but am curious if it would work like a dye. Hmmm; since the grandkids like the temporary dyes, maybe they can try it first........ ;D

I'd be careful with onion skin unless your hair is brown already I have a stain on the painted floor in my basement where water dripped from a shirt over onionskins that had fallen out of a bag onto the floor. They are used for dying naturally (both yellow and red onions).

I suppose on a blonde, they might make the hair a nice mousy brown. ;D I have red hair, so it works well, and if anything, helps tone down any grey there is.

Way too sensitive to use anything except Physicians Formula minerals. Someday when I have extra cash I'll go back to the Ecco Bella makeup I used to get about 20 years ago. Dont have much tolerance and definitely not with eye shadow, mascara, or eye liner. I'm a Phosphorus constitution so my face seems ruddy all the time, so I don't need blush, I just use foundation.
