Boys Night Out
By A Chaney
I've always been a practical joker. If you went to school with me and someone was standing with their mouth wide open and they had a confused look on their face, chances are, it was something I said or did. That being said, here a true little story.
It's hard to say what year this was with exact certainly, but it was in the early 80's. The fellow this story is about was born in 66" and got his license in 82" and it was somewhere after that time.
I grew up in a real small town about 30 miles outside of Waco, Texas. Every year a hot rod car show called World of Wheels came to town and my buddy Green and I would go. I started driving in 80" and he got his license a year later. This story isn't about him though. This story is about our good friend Dwayne.
Dwayne had this sweet little 66 Chevy that he and his father fixed up. Man, this car was a nice ride! When they first fixed it up, they painted it white, but a couple of years later painted it A real soft Blue. It had tuck and roll seats, and a chrome glovebox. Ok, ok, back to the story.
That year, we decided to take Dwayne's Chevy and go to the car show. My little Nephew was my shadow back in the day and he went along with us. My Nephew was known as "Bubba" and I'm guessing he was around 5 or 6 years old. He's an important part of this study.
Once we got to the car show, we went up and down the isles checking out all the nice rides! Somehow, we got separated and I spotted Dwayne sitting on bench and he was talking to a real pretty girl. I told my buddy Green that I had an idea. It's important to say that Dwayne was still in high school and wasn't married. Anyway, I told my Nephew Bubba to go sit next to Dwayne and he did like I told him. I then walked up and said in a pretty loud voice, "Hey Dwayne, your wife wants to know if you can watch the kid for a few minutes. The girl got all red faced, got up and walked off in a huff! There sat Dwayne with his mouth wide open and a confused look on his face.
Dwayne wasn't good for anything the rest of the night. All he could do was walk around muttering and moaning about how pretty that girl was and how I just messed up everything!
I told y'all I was a prankster!
