In my allotment there are two grown European Walnuts, which produce less juglone (and therefore are more compatible with other plants) than some American species, notably black walnut. This year I didn't get any nuts, but that's an anomaly, and I have plenty of volunteers, most of them in the potato patch, but I didn't count them lately (after digging the potatoes). The biggest volunteer however is in a different place far from any grown trees, where there used to be a compost pile.

Even though Gunnar resides far away from the bosom of the confederacy. I likes the thicker shelled regia.
I will not pester Gunnar for his seed, getting them past our border defences will be a problem. it is however one of the seeds I remain on look out for. For pending grow outs.

Did anybody besides me see the photo set on Alan Bishops site about jumbo walnuts???
Its almost enough to make me want to use the crow bar on the yard and see if I can stretch it a little bigger...

AAahhhh I remember Grampa would leave his black walnut seeds sit in water during freezing weather then plant the following spring... Jumbo walnuts? ?--gotta see those.
