I have grown them in the past. I have one feral fox grape to dig and do something with. it may become bonsai...
I'll have to see how fat the stump is.

Growing up with grape vines here in the northeast...we had Concord Great for jams, jellies, juice, but they matured so late. There is now Fredonia and Bluebell, two other sweet grapes.

Vitis Rotundifolia Texas Mustang aka Muscadine
I live one state too north of this grapes home range. A-n-d I don't have room for one. So, with that disclaimer out of the way.
Muscadine: by habit is like most grapes. it needs full sun. it will climb and kill trees to build its own trellis.
Culture muscadine will grow fine on Kniffin trellis, it can be grown on arbor, but arbors are more spendy. I don't think any grape gives a damn darn what trellis it grows on. Muscadine frontier's are: cold and dry air. By report it does better in eastern counties of TX for instance.
By seed grape seed are little more rugged than many other woody plant seed. it can tolerate drying (but germination will be delayed and or reduced). it germinates best with outdoors winter stratification. For the first three years prune your new dormant grape to a single whip.
By propagation a quick read turned up 'pegging' as a preffered method. pegging is simple lancing a semi-hardwood branch (last years growth) and inserting a splinter into that wound and rubbing in some rooting hormone into the wound. Weight down wounded branch onto moist soil with a nice flat rock.
Either seed or rooted division are good candidates for barter or sale.

My fox grape came out (of the flower bed) and went into a paper-white daffodil pan. its not quite as huge as I'd like, but I'll see how well (or if) it wakes up next spring.
If you are just sawing off a part of a grape stump, it should get taken in the spring and will need a shade house.
Grapes exfoliating bark and willingness to back bud makes faking up a cute little 2-wire trellis, for a fantasy grape bonsai work better than text can tell.

Have one called a New England Concord that did very well last year. It is a seeded variety but nice concord flavor. I made grape jam - it was a lot of work to seed the grapes, cook the skins, etc but got two jelly jars from my one vine. In our area (Denver) we do the pruning about Feb/March. Grapes like to be pruned. My 91 yr old Dad in KS has a bunch of grape vines. Doesn't do much with them these days but he is entertained by the wild turkeys that come to feast on the dropped grapes!

My garden club is expecting delivery of grape cuttings from the USDA Clonal Germplasm cutting program at UC Davis, any suggestions on how best to root the cuttings? We're getting green and red seedless know to do well in the heat and plan on selling them in the fall. Any help greatly appreciated.

Propagating dormant grape cuttingsI'm going to get in trouble this dark-thirty. There are many searchable links on this horticultural practice. Rather than my being responcible for your due dilligence, Fire up your preffered search engine. Details easy to miss: Rooting hormone looses potency quickly. If you didn't buy yours this spring and want to propagate, its likely time to get some fresh. Clean tools makes a higher success rate. Understand and read up on disease, specifically root disease of grape.

Thanks Coppice. I've been thinking about putting a few grapes in here along the fence, or up and over the deck railing. You've posted some things to be aware of that I never knew. Now I have to decide whether to try some or leave the growing to the professionals since wine country is just minutes down the highway.
