Hey, I forgot to tell you guys on the 23rd...I won my case in court. I didn't say anything before because you know how posting on the net can come back to bite you. The neighbors dogs killed my ducks at my pond. They also killed 2 five month old pullets and an 18 month old Pekin hen. They in turn charged me with "ducks at large." They said my ducks traveled 1/4 mile through rocks and sagebrush, down a steep hill, with no open water or forage, to aggravate their dogs. The judge threw out the ducks at large charge. They were found guilty of running a puppy mill, 3 dogs at large charges, no licenses for over 12 dogs, and dogs that were harrassing, maiming, killing livestock. They were hit with almost $2,500.00 in fines that were suspended as long as there are NO incidents in the next 12 months. I get $93.00 to replace the ducks. I am still debating about taking them to civil court for damages. Damages including loss of income for 18 month (my duck program was set back 18 months) amounts to $5,953.25. NRS says I can ask for three times the amount of my losses which would be $17,859.76. I can go to small claims court for amounts up to $5,000.00, above that is just civil court and I would need to get a lawyer who would take 1/3 of the settlement. I'm just so tired of this, I don't know if I want to keep fighting. Their dogs were running loose over Thanksgiving weekend and I had the camera, the rifle, and the shotgun within reach. This won't be an SSS. If I have to shoot the dogs I'll be calling the sheriff to charge them with another dog at large and they will have to pay all those penalties. I know, I'm not being very nice, but after 2 years of these people (& 3 flocks of ducks) I'm done. Rant over ;D

You really should make sure the names, dates & local of that 'Puppy Mill' hit the wire! People need to know where they are so they don't get suckered and be sure your local Pet stores aren't buying animals from them. Be careful not to open a liable/slander suit on yourself

No It's been shut down and they're getting a divorce. The courts notified Las Vegas animal control so if she starts up again she'll have to pay all those fines. ;D

I used to really like dogs. Now not so much. Two reasons-- I've seen what irresponsible people do with them, let them outside to run amok. Also the big dogs terrify my son, & even the small ones get to him when they run at him or bark loudly, which they inevitably do.

It's a shame there are "Stooopid Neighbors" and inconsiderate pet owners and everybody has to deal with it because of one idiot. You really can't shoot the neighbor ;D so you'll have to settle for the dog....it's a shame.

At least I'll be able to replace them in the spring. It's the 18 months of lost income that really hurts. Almost $6,000 in eggs and meat. I had buyers lined up already for the duck meat and I'm still trying to fill the orders for duck eggs. One dozen left and I'll be caught up.

Bummer,, big time bummer! Kat. I think I would consider taking them to small claims court especially since you have already won the first go round.

I am very glad you won your case. I think you should go civil cause people like this just dont get it, nor will they stop being idiots till they get slapped hard. It also might incourage them not to puppy mill, which we all know is not good for the dogs. Its not the dogs fault its the owners. That being said, we used to have chickens and turkeys a long time ago. The neighbors dog killed all of them in 4 different rounds. After they were ALL dead the neighbor put the dog to sleep, so it wouldnt happen again. Well thanks alot. Now almost 20 years later we have chickens again. Honestly we love them so very dearly. We give the eggs away to local people who are needy. This is so much fun. The people get so eggscited. ;D We are just not very bussiness like, and no we dont make a profit, but there is definately a money amount that could be applied here as well. We hand out about 10 dozen eggs a trip. So I can totally understand and appriciate your set back. Yes you should be compensated for your loss.
