Heya, Garret! I'm a fabricator by trade. I weld, machine, and paint. I work in ag, mostly on crop sprayers (both wet and dry) along with manure spreaders. I do everything from simple weld repairs to designing and putting together custom builds. My employer also sells alot of custom parts I build for them. Wet spray booms, tanks, and other parts I or someone else I work with has come up with better ideas for over OEM.
I'm nearly finished wtih a 9103 Tera Gator job. I stretched the frame 7', 2" and built a subframe to hold a 22' New Leader manure spreader. She gets weigh bars between the chassis and subframe so right now I'm building mounts for the scales. This thing is so HUGE! Everyday when I come into work and see it sitting there I remember just how lucky I am. I'm not getting rich but I have no problem getting up and going to work in the morning.

Ya I weld. I have a torch and a mig. I have associated small equipment that enable me to create or repair what I need. I should follow old Mike Kliebert footsteps and build steel boats. Small unsinkable boats with huge power plants to outrun hurricanes with. That and the revenuers. Heheh What you need to start with is a solid work surface so make that your first project. Get your work place in order and keep it debris free for safety sake Make your measurements, then buy your stock. Make certain of your measurements then cut. Smooth off the cut edges then begin to place those edges to be welded together and clamp so nothing moves. Double triple quadruple check everything then weld the joint. Once welded you will understand the multiple check system. It's steel baby and that ain't cheap anymore and it sure ain't allowing any adjustments. Once welded and checked, do the next and next. Then grind the welds down smooth so your project looks professional. you may elect to weld large casters on the legs bottoms or not. You can top it as you wish. Mine have a 5/8 inch thick slab of ply board then a sheet of steel bolted down through the ply board to the frame work. Extremely sturdy and will support any project. I have about eight, varying sizes. So, you need a torch or electric welder, a grinder, a letter from your mom and an 807! Now you can weld. Train
807. Translation = Bottle of beer. Ham lingo. Train

There are two kinds of people in the world, them that weld and them that don't. Buy yerself one of those fancy line feed wire mig thingys and have a go at it. You will soon be doing all kinds of crazy useful stuff. There is mig welders, stick welders, gas welding, and forge welding. The last one is for the blacksmith in everyone. Gotta love it. Get that steel up to 2400 degrees F, put a little flux on it, and give it a whack with the hammer. Sometimes you use the power hammer or the hydraulic press.......beware! Buying a welding setup leads to workshop expansion. The next thing you know, you have a 200 pound anvil, a couple of forges, and you can't park the truck in the garage anymore.
