ya know I think that more attention to how the tomato plant does in your locale --- as far as growth and bloom set- number of toms produced -- average size --- color etc, than the looks of a certain perfectly shaped tomato fruit might be more important . Just thinking out loud and knowing that the seed I save I try to save from the best performing plant . Toms, I have not had much luck saving cuz didn't realize ya gotta let them ferment . This happens to be my best biggest plant. Had so many fused blooms at first though they mostly dropped. It has outgrown its 6'6" cage and it is only June. It has produced about 6 perfect looking maters and a few fused ones that are quite large. So it may be the right plant to save a few seeds from. The fused tomato I picked yesterday which there is a picture showing it in tomato thred was about 6" long 3 1/2" tall.

Picked about 6 cukes 13 more maters today.
See what I think is my Aji Dulce pepper putting out a few goodies. Have another plant no idea what it is but it is starting to add peppers.is wrinkly looking and has three points at the bottom not 4 like a bell. Will watch it grow hopefully can figure out what it is.

We got rain last night! Not as much as I thought, no puddles, but we also have a chance today and tomorrow. Everything is standing tall this morning (including weeds. Lol). A few of the corn plants are tilted, but not bad.
My lone Long of Naples seperated from the stem for some reason, so I brought it in the house. Guess I'll try to use it like a really large summer squash. Picked some tomatoes this morning and a bunch of beans from 1 patch yesterday along with a couple of Armenian cukes. Pulled the first of the tomato plants that were on their last legs. They are all in one row in newer garden area, so more amending is needed in that area. Still a few mater plants in that row that I'm waiting for remaining fruit to ripen before pulling. I'll put okra in that row. My 2 long pepper rows are in the newer area and they were looking mighty pale, so I used Medina soil conditioner as a drench around the plants yesterday and they started looking greener yesterday afternoon. That are drains quicker due to the amount of compost I put in at the beginning of the season, so I also watered. I'll go back and hit them with a fish emulsion drench to complete the re-greening process today or tomorrow.

Good news on the rain TXDD we got some heavy duty storms and then a slow steady rain that filled in most of the cracks in the yard and garden. Think I heard over 2 inches.
Still trying to decide if I am going to pull my tomato plants or just not water and see if they make it to fall. I am not worried about planting anything in the space.
Wish I liked okra better I know it would grow great here. I only like it fried so I usually eat it rarely at a restaurant.

I'm going to be pulling most of my maters as they complete ripening their fruit set in order to plant other things. I learned last summer it just wasn't worth it to me to keep them going. I'll leave some cherry types and maybe a few other types that can keep setting in the heat. I want the space for other stuff this summer. Primarily okra and cowpeas, but more squash, melons, that type of stuff. If you keep your maters, it'll be interesting to see what your result is. I'm not recommending either way, as things are different garden to garden. I only typically grow okra every other year, as it's not a huge item for us.

Pole beans, carrots and some of the winter squash are up. Planted Zucchetta Rampicante last week, expect that up before long. Just planted corn last night. Supposed to get down into the 40's Tuesday and Wednesday night so I'm putting off planting the tomatoes and peppers for a few days anyway. And my strawberries are starting to ripen.

Planted the last of my daylilies and a few "tuckers." I had some broccoli , celery and collard plants that didn't make it in the garden when I did my major planting a couple weeks ago. Those were my "tuckers." I've been picking strawberries for a week now! They're about 3 weeks early. I should be picking peas this week too.
Yesterday, I also weeded, weeded, weeded! There's still more to do! I never even got to two sections on the main garden, never mind the flower beds.

Look at all that corn! Oh wait, that's not yours, LOL. Nice garden W8in. But I gotta ask about the eggplants. Do they actually mature in Z5 in the ground? I always put mine in containers on the farm because I was in 4b/5a and that was the only way I got mature fruit. Now I put them in containers because I don't have room for them in the actual garden, lol

Pulled the batch of garlic between the street and the front fence. Didn't do a lot as that is some REALLY bad soil that I just put some unfinished compost into before planting, but it did grow plants. I'm going to reseed it with okra or cowpeas later. That'll give the folks in the neighborhood something to talk about.

Well, I have been busy, busy, busy ... got the garden planted, sold all the baby rabbits from the late March kindling, got the bunny runout pen done, filled in a whole bunch of places that were worn down or bare or what not, cut the edging on the front sidewalks that hadn't been done in 3 years Got a new dog from the shelter, suffered a dog attack on my pedigreed English Angora babies and lost 3. Took out the 2 dogs that attacked (Memorial Day weekend), the only thing the ACO could talk about when I turned in the incident report a few days later was how high my corn was ;D Still have a lot to get done ... move the compost piles so I can put up the last bit of chainlink fencing on that side of the yard, then put the compost piles in their permanent location (no more moving them around the yard LOL), then we need to build the permanent rabbit hutches which some are going in where the compost piles are now. I am in the middle of clearing a garden bed next to the house of the bermuda that has invaded it over the past 3 years Just finished up laying grass clipping mulch in the most important parts of the gardens ... still have a little bit more to do, but that will wait until the carrots come out. Anyway, here's a Property Tour video I shot the last day of May ... and I am really liking how things are coming together. I scored a plastic "shed" from the neighbors that I am using as my tool shed, and a "chrome" rack that goes over a toilet to use as my drying rack ;D Hey, it works, it was free, and it fits the spot LOL youtu.be/TIByFHW-hDU
