The peacefulness reminded me of camping in Clinton County with my ex and friends when I was in my early 20s. It was state forest land, not a campground. We would go primitive camping for a week and it was wonderful!

Primitive camping was in my 20's (and probably into 30's), many many years ago. The safety issues we were concerned with was bears and other wildlife. Don't know if I would want to do it now with all the nuts around. We went back to the same site every year and only once did we have to find another one because our favorite was taken. It was very remote but a ranger would come by once early during our stay each time. Occasionally, we would see a fisherman walking the creek, but usually there was no one else around. My ex knew about the place because it was where his grandfather had taken him when he was a child, although they camped in an area not quite as remote.

Sounds like a lot of fun, zinniagirl. It's a darn shame that we have to worry about what kind of people might be out there, isn't it. With some of these crimes, I wonder what the h*ll is wrong with people. Like when I and my friend used to hitchhike; it wasn't a really a big deal. No way would I ever want to hear that my daughter or grandkids tried such a thing. You are not even 100% safe in your own neighborhood anymore.

Sorry for not responding but between the hospital and rehab I spent the first two Mo. of this year flat on my back forgetting any of my threads. As far as the critters, we do not sleep outside anymore and we all have a firearm at our side. The photo below is of a friend of mine who is 6' tall and his hand is right above where a bear chewed off some bark to mark his territory. He also did this to several trees around the camp and also to a few boards of the camp siding. We got the message but we are standing our ground. John

The only incident we had when primitive camping in the 60s was an acquaintance that left a cooler of food in out tent because they were rained out and went home.
