If my brother ever decides to surf the net, he could write pages about the subject, me ? I know next to nothing about them since I don't really hunt...at least not Deer! I know, I'll rant and rave about all the damage they do to my trees and such and at such a time I would and could shoot one, but I never see them when the dirty deeds are done, but out in the wild...just couldn't bring myself to do it...so I let my brother do the hunting and I eat the meat ;D

I'm not really into manufacturers.
My favorite calibers:
Shotgun: 20 gauge for just shooting (not as much kick). 12 gauge for business.
Rifle:
22 for target shooting and small game. Prefer a stock-loader semi-automatic and nylon stock. Load it up, shoot awhile - light - accurate.
270 bolt for actual hunting.
30-06 lever action for brush buster.
Not really into pistols, but 9mm or 44 cal.
I fired a snub-nose 22 once. I'd be lucky to hit the side of a very large barn with one of those things.

I have a 270 for hunting which I haven't done in a while, 12 guage pump, 22 automatic both rifle and pistol, and a 40 caliber S & W for house varmints. Haven't bought any new ones in over 10 years.

Well Blue, wouldn't they kinda fall into the same catagory?

The air rifle would do for 4 legged rats, the forty would be a bit of an overkill for them. It is very nice for the two legged variety though, same caliber our police use.

Well Blue, wouldn't they kinda fall into the same catagory? Kinda, although the 4 legged kind of rat is only looking for a meal and a place to sleep. Can't say that about the 2 legged kind...

I have more than I need, but the wife and I both like to shoot, plus we live out in the boonies. My wife's favorite is a 28 g shotgun that I bought for her a few years back. She also has a 38. She plans on getting a 357 Sig real soon though. As for pistols, If you never shot a 40, it's an amazing round with plenty of stopping power. If you want a cheap round to plink tin cans or what not, a 9mm is hard to beat.

I just got a sweet deal on a rifle. It's a Savage with synthetic stock, blue barrel. It's chambered in .308 Wimchester and has a 3x9x50 scope. Picked it up for $325! Also have a Model 64 Winchester .22 (tube fed) Need to get me a shotgun. One of those slug guns with the rifled barrel is high on my wish list.

My favorite is a sweet little Puma lever action chambered in .357 ... sits sweetly in the hands, shoots really smooth, and levers really nicely ... much better than the Marlin I had that I traded off on something else after getting the Puma LOL
For distance and "reach out and touch" I like the M1A in .308 ... it is balanced well enough for me to handle without a rest.
As for pistol ... semi-auto is my Kimber UCII .45acp and my Springfield Arms EMP 9mm. wheel gun is my replica navy colt chambered in .357
For straight up hunting my Remmington 700 in .270 or the .308 both from grand dads collection.
For plinking it is a toss up between my M1A1 Auto Ordinance .30 cal or the Winchester pump .22s from grand dad and grand mother.

;D Those came about because I watched that history channel show Sharpshooters ... saw Bill do it with a rifle and went to the range the very next day and split the Ace with the lever action rifle, thought that was too easy, so cut the 5 with a pistol ;D With a 15-20mph cross wind ... ya know how it is on the plains at an outdoor range
