interesting question if ya only had 1 knife in your pocket. just a tiny 1 blade pen knife sure is used allot in everyday life. maybe a rambo but would want the tiny knife to compliment it. good quality swiss army would have it's virtues as would outdoorsmans pliers. hmmmm... not sure which i would want.

I like a Spyderco lockblade. It clips to your pocket so that it is allways with you. That's better than a Rambo that has to stay in the car.

I've actually found a WWII era bayonet (I *think* from a Garand - but not positive) to be pretty darn useful. Only slightly less effective than a machette for chopping down vegetation, it has a point for poking/drilling, single edged, so with care can do a whittling action. Cuts twine and cording just fine when sharp. Most important to the survival aspect, you can generally reach out and "touch" something before most things would be able to "touch" back. While longer than any knife I've ever held, not so long as to be completely cumbersome. Generally, just a good piece of steel.

Whites Farm, on the way out of Concord NH is the State of NH official auction site. Manchester (NH) airport's homeland security squad sends all the sharps they collect at the airport to White's Farm, where they sell confiscated pocket knives for 50ยข each. usually there are 50-150 gallons of pocket knives on hand at any one time.
I used to pick the ones with good carbon-steel blades. Prolly still have half a dozen. An "Old Timer" is sitting on the desk in front of me as I write, of whites farm origination.

For my pocket, I carry a little spring blade 2" with a flat steel case ... I have seen one other with one like it, but I miss the one I had back in the 1980s that had a deer scene stamped in the case metal.
For hunting, I carry either my k-bar or my hogback. I have small hands and it is rare when a knife will fit comfortably in my hand.

My favorite, carry all the time knife is a Chicago Cutlery folding knife called the traveler. Closed, its only 4 1/4 inches with a 3 inch blade. comes with a canvas camo colored sheath that you carry on your belt. Great Knife! When I discovered them in sears back in the late 70's or early 80's, I bought everyone they had. Both Mrs Camo and myself carry and use them constantly. For Fishing, I have 4 KaBar fillet knives in two different sizes that can't be beat for fillet fish or trimming up a roast! I have a case two bladed folding knife that was my grandfathers that's hard to beat. Closed it's 5 1/2 inches. One blade is 3 1/2 inches, the other 3 3/4 inches. Great knife, used to carry it in my back pocket all the time. Now it stays home as it has a tendency to drag my pants down, don't know if its the weight of the knife or the large gut that contributes to the problem...I'm blaming the knife! Knives are as plentiful as fishing tackle or kitchen goodies in this household, so I'll stop there, but good knives have always been one of my weaknesses. Enjoy! Camo
