I don't know if this is normal or not, but we were at Wal-Mart today, and they were announcing on the PA system clearance items in several departments were 1/2 of the red-tag price.
We found a rack of Nestles Toll-House morsels 16 oz bags white chocolate, butterscotch and semi-sweet marked $1 and sure enough at check-out they rang up as 50 cents each. Normal pricing around $2.50 or higher per bag.
We're set for morsels for baking for a while. Expiration dates have a good amount of time left on them - some are 2013.
If you frequent a Wal-Mart you might keep an eye out or inquire about the half-off clearance items. I don't remember seeing this before.

Went to Wallyworld to get the new vacuum sealer yesterday and found 4 12xquart cases of Better Homes & Garden jars on closeout - $5 per case! I got all 4!
Now, I realize that other folks have had trouble with these jars in pressure canning, so I plan on using them for water bathing only, but they are pretty 'quilted' jars ;D

Thanks for the info about canning jars! So far they're not on sale here, but will try again tomorrow. I usually buy pints and half pints there because they're usually always stocked at W.M. I love sales!

Catherine, this was a 'special deal' as the walmart where I live is in financial trouble ... they are running at 1/4 staff and have gone through 3 store managers in the past year and just 'lost' 2 (of 3) assistant managers to defrauding the store ... waiting for felony charges to be filed LOL The temp manager they sent in is trying to clear out the overstock and is slashing prices on anything that has been in inventory more than a year. I learned some of this after I got home because my DD is one of only 3 Inventory Control Techs LOL Now, if there is a walmart in your area that is in financial trouble, you might be able to get these deals

That is so sad for your community. The WM(s) in our area seem to be doing very well and I usually have 4 to choose from. It's always nice to find stuff that's more than affordable. Take advantage of all that you can.
I need to check out the Starbucks stores and get some coffee grounds.

I've been quite disappointed in WM lately as I thought I'd 'always' find the best deals there. Not lately. Even Target had better prices for some brand name products. What's this world coming to when you can't depend on WM?

What's this world coming to when you can't depend on WM? i started noticing this for about the past couple years and it's getting more prevalent. not sure if wally bottomed out hard or competitors are trying to survive. they don't seem to be pushing competitors coupons and how to get "extra" special deals so much.

Wally Werld, had had fewer competitively priced items on the past couple years. The latest defcit has been holes in sizes of shoes and cloths. When the size of shoes stop at 10 and waist size at 32. I won't be shopping there. Nothing fits.
I stoped shoping at Monkey Ward & Sears for the same reason.

Wow, man-those chips freeze, good, too! I don't shop Wal-Mart too often but I like to go for the "after" sales-After Christmas, after Easter, after the summer-if you're lucky-you can get some good deals!

For all of my bad-moth regarding Wally Werld, they screwed up last week and bought some Ivy (hedera helix) that was rooted and I could divide into tree babies.
He shakes head.
