I live 3 blocks from the post office and after leaving there today I came home through the alleyways. Behind a neighbor's house I spied a garden cart out by the trash bins with some wall stones in it, so I went down and asked if they were out for the trash or just a project someone was in the middle of. She said take what I want.
There were 3 of those wall stones on top of a bunch of 2"x6"x12" board ends that are just right for knocking something together with and several pieces of broken cinderblock and other bricks!
I generally don't do really big projects, and I hate to cut down a long board for some small project, and I generally only need 2-5 stones, pavers, wall stones at any one time ;D
And I also scored two more rocks for a couple of wash out areas ... when the rain comes down in sheets, it will overrun the corner dams on my rain gutter and I have 3 little rock gardens to keep those spots from washing out. It drives the ex absolutely NUTZ when I drag rocks home ;D Although, about 5 years ago he finally admitted that whatever I do drag home I "do something" with and it is generally useful and looks good. And I am quite picky about the individual rocks I choose for that spot ... some nice agates, some black granite, some alabaster, etc.
Of course, today when I told him about it he said, "So you were scrounging in the alleys again?" ;D

Yep, I paid IIRC, $50 for mine 10-12 years ago (marked down from $70 at the end of the season) ... the square green one with the wire sides and the sides drop down or come completely off ... I know I've got my money's worth out of it within a couple of years ... and it complements the contractor's wheelbarrow really nicely!
In fact, it can be seen in the photo of the baby rabbits in the "seen any pur de redneck" thread ... I am using it as a temporary growout cage for the babies LOL

I don't have a fancy garden cart with removable sides, but I have one that tilts to dump, although I find it not as easy to dump out as a wheelbarrow. However, I like it because I find it more versatile than a wheelbarrow in the yard. It holds more plants in containers because the bed is flat and it's easier for giving rides to the dog or grandchildren

I don't have a wheelbarrow any more. Yards too small to justify the expense of a dumpcart and a wheeliebarrow, LOL

We had a shredder for a few years. Wore the durn thing right out, and that was before we left Suburbia. So yep, Redperson, methinks you need the large economy size for what y'all are doing there.
Get yourself a good tractor with a front end loader and a bale spear. You'd be amazed at the stuff you can do with one of those.

Ok, my latest score (besides dozens of bags of grass clippings) was one of those "chrome" bathroom racks that go over the toilet ... the neighbor was throwing it away and I asked if I could have it ... he passed it to me over the back fence, I got my 6-way and tightened it up and it is now living next to the plastic shed I scored from another neighbor. It makes a good drying rack and I have 3 golf-ball-sized garlics drying on it now.

Score!! Picked up a radio flyer red wagon with the removable sides. Will be a tremendous help this fall with hauling the bags of leaves from the driveway to the back yard compost area!!! Of course, I just might use it to hold overflowing flower pots in a moment of weakness, actually to agrevate the neighbors with it sitting in the middle of the front yard!
