No exotic cheap tree seeds, but our local Lowes puts their plants that are past bloom on clearance. Last week there was a lonely plum tree that was calling me. I didn't buy it, but its still calling me!
I did buy a lot of perennials there, on clearance, earlier in the season, when we had a quirky warm streak in March.

Yeah, their clearance rack is a mix of brink-of-death plants, plants that are perfectly healthy but look bad post-bloom, and those that could recover with just need a little TLC. If you know which is which, you can score some nice bargains.

I have in the past managed to revive some of those clearance brink- of- death plants by taking them out of their pots and into a bucket of water, trimming off dead , spindly or damaged limbs, old blooms, leaves, and any weak looking growth then loosening the soil from around their roots and trimming those damaged or dead before replanting in moist good fresh soil , keeping them damp the first week or so til they look a bit better , then after 2 weeks fertilizing them with a weak liquid fertilizer .

Heh, my thumb is not green enough to revive those brink of death plants. Good for you that you have success with them, though. Mostly this is because I am willing to baby plants that provide food for me, but I just am not interested enough in ornamentals to give them a lot of care. They pretty much get stuck in the ground, watered by the sprinklers, and ordered to grow or die.

Even the veggi plants will benefit from a good soaking before transplanting, Most the time they are suffering cuz of lack of watering as in a good soaking instead of a sprinkling while waving a water wand over the entire flat or table of flats .
