Ladies, just curious, for those of you who are going throught the 'change' or have been through it, how did you realize you were in it? Did the doc tell ya or did you or did your family tell ya?

I thought I was but I wasn't. It was actually a serious medical problem.
Do check with your doctor to be sure.

Yup; wouldn't hurt to see a dr for tests s/he might think necessary to rule out other things. For me, I just 'knew' from the symptoms, tho the dr didnt believe that's what it was because of my age.
Moodiness and short temper part of it was no fun at all, but had to keep remembering it was temporary; thank heavens.

I'm in my late 50's now, but started the change in my late 40's-I was NUTS! Everything ticked me off-I had hot flashes, lots of them (still do, just not as many) Got on anti-depressants for several years to control my "anger". Always screaming at my son about something that didn't matter, and hated my whole family. So glad that's all over! Lots of days I didn't like myself.

When you quit having "the curse" that's how you know. I went to the natural HRT Bi-Est daily and natural progesterone applied 3 times a year for ten consecutive days (March, July, November). Most of those symptoms like hot flashes they can be Lyme related, besides the more annoying kind that I probably can't speak about in mixed company. If I didn't apply Bi-Est I would have an estrogen dependent daily migraine. The Bi-est takes care of the "lack of moisture," migraines, and the rest of the problems like crabbyness, the flashes (which in my case were Lyme co-infection related). I get my natural hormones compounded by a compounding pharmacist.

When I went into perimenopause, I naturally went to see an OB/GYN... ”Dr. Jennifer”... a young, ernest, PERKY doctor. That alone was enough to set my teeth on edge. She failed to ”get” my type of dark, gallows humor... She talked about the 'journey' that 'we' were beginning... I kind of verbally ripped her throat out... Then she promptly prescribed HRT & anti-depressants. UGH! I never filled the prescriptions & I never went back...
