We are moving from an on the faucet water filter to an under the sink water filter. Yeah we get city water. I bought the darned thing (after a ton and a half of researching such filters) about two weeks ago. DH swore he was going to be the one to install it. Uh-huh, that's going well. So I have been looking at the thing and contemplating my stiff but improving paws. It's a simple enough process. Lord knows I have done enough of the household handywork to handle it. The one bit that gives me pause is making the hole for the faucet. I've done plenty of woodworking and drywall. I've installed faucets and shower suites. I've not done a lot with metal, and I would have to make a hole in the stainless steel sink top for this. What do you reckon, mark it, cut it as close as I can with the dremal and a cutting disk, and then bur it down, then burr it smooth? I am totally open to suggestions here.

Nightmist--- I am lost ---- my under sink water filter simply hooked to the existing water line to the existing faucet. Our present filter hooks into the water line --its outside in the well house.
why does your filter require another faucet?

Nightmist--- I am lost ---- my under sink water filter simply hooked to the existing water line to the existing faucet. Our present filter hooks into the water line --its outside in the well house. why does your filter require another faucet? This is a question I asked my own self. When I inquired of the people who were supposed to know about such things, they just looked at me like I had an eggplant growing out the top of my head. Except for the one fellow down at the local hardware store (the not totally a franchise one) who told me I would have to spend another couple of hundred dollars to get one like that. The only thing I see that might make it preferable to use the separate faucet is it would save on the filters just running drinking and cooking water through it. Though truth be told we don't use cold water for much else, just enough to not scald our hands for dishwashing and the like. Thing is, once you get the hole in the sink top, the filter installs quite easily. Everything it takes is in the box. I'd have to sort out new fittings and how to install them to change up to going through the existing faucet entirely. If I give up the luxury of the sprayer I could use that hole for the new faucet. I don't think I want to give that up though, using it actually saves water for us. We don't have terrible hard water or anything like that. Just your typical icky tasting city water, and a kid that has tested high for lead in a neighborhood where assorted children have had assorted heavy metal issues. We are moving to the under the sink filter because the faucet mount one kept getting damaged. Besides the under the sink one is rated better for metals and the assorted nasty chemicals you find in city water. I can only dream about a whole house filter. Too pricey for us I'm afraid.
