An ultra hot relatively healthy bbq sauce
1 tablespoon coconut oil 1 large yellow onion minced 6 cloves garlic minced 1 or 2 habenero peppers, seeded, cored, and minced 1/2 cup malt vinegar or raw apple cider vinegar 1/2 cup fresh squeezed lime juice 1/2 cup water or vegetable broth 1 can(6 ounces) tomato paste 3 tablespoons dark rum 1 tablespoon dijon mustard 1 tablespoon worchestshire sauce, organic if possible 1/4 cup Sucanat(raw sugar, brown would do) 3/4 tsp salt 1/2 tsp dried thyme heat the oil in a skillet and brown the onion about 4 minutes then add garlic for 30 seconds, remove pan from heat and place in a 1 and 1/2 quart or 1 quart slow cooker. add remaining ingredients and cook on high for 1 and 1/2 to 2 hours. Take the crock out of the crock pot and let sit covered for 1 hour. Serve as it is or puree as you wish for chunky or smooth.

Sounds tasty. I might actually try this one. Prolly substitute decaf coffee for the rum or just omit altogether. Thanks Gulfie, it does sound good!

Sounds like a good one. When the chocolate habs get around to actually trying to flower and give some fruit, I think I'll try that one.

I'd have to get one of those microcrockpots first. It does sound like a good sauce for hotwings though. Squeezing that many limes though? Ouch! I've done it for making ceveche a few times.

Well I actually bought the habeneros. They are normally too hot for me so I don't plant them. The habeneros give it that delayed heat that hits right as it hits the back of your throat. Next time 3 habeneros though.

Well two isn't too hot if you remove the seeds. Like I said I'll use 3 next time as I like the delayed heat effect that they give. Of course around here they put tabasco in our baby bottles.

So how did this batch come out Gcg?
Chocolate Hab plants are kicking them out pretty good now. Best production I've ever had for Habs. Need to start using them in interesting ways.

Pretty good, these were smaller orange habeneros. They were only $4.95 a lb at the Winn Dixie. Being from Texas you might need 4 chocolate habs. I think it would be great hot wing sauce. BTW if you use a stick blender you can just put it right into the crockpot. Then ladle it into sterilized pint jars for hot water bath canning. If you use a large onion it barely makes enough to can 2 pints.

I've got to make more of this when the chocolate habeneros get ripe. I smoked a whole pork loin for the employees at work today. I made a sandwhich with the pork loin and the 4 habenero version of this. The bread and pork tamed it down just right. Bush's Baked Beans on the side(the beans are a three pack of 28 ounce cans fr $5 at Walmart)

You ought to can and sell this stuff. I bet you could sell all you could make for Christmas gifts if you tie a piece of chile-patterned cloth over the top of the jar - especially if your friends and coworkers get little samples between now and Thanksgiving.
(Does MS have a cottage food law so you could sell your BBQ sauce legally?)

Our particular town cracks down on people selling canned stuff at the Farmer's Market.

I made it with chocolate habaneros last night. Two chocolate habaneros is about as hot as 4 of the orange habaneros.
