Hi Charles,
About the pecans, do you want native or papershell? I can get native this fall.

Pick natives over papershell.
You are more likely to get a crop without zinc treatments.

Native (pecans) do have more oil in 'em. I'm with annclaire, I think they taste better.

Went Filbert hunting last year pick some up off the ground crack open a few of them to taste them the shell were all empty that I crack open no nuts on inside of the shell I guess the Squirrels knew which nut had nut on the inside and which one were empty on the inside Charles

A quick way to separate the blanks when you pick Filberts is to put them in a tub of water, the blanks will float so anything that floats you just get rid of.

Garret will have some filbert (hazelnut) coming. It is worth mention in passing that corylus is wind pollinated, and gendered. So the rule of thumb is to plant more than two when you plant them.
These often get planted hedge style sortacheekbyjowel.
