I found this rose seedling about a month ago while weeding between 2 of my pink floribundas. I have annuals in the rose bed that reseed so I am very watchful while weeding.
This had 2 baby leaves and one set of 3 leaves . At first I thought it was a wild dew berry plant coming up , but the more I looked at it the more its leaves looked more like rose then berry, so I scooped it up , there was a pot with dirt in it nearby , had a petunia growing in it last year , so I planted it in that pot then left it sit under the rose just to see if it was dewberry or what . It was just barely an inch tall when I put it in the pot . Then it got hot so went to water it and lo and behold it had a bloom, bloom was less than 1/2 inch wide --- and had multiple petals scrolled around inside the bloom. It was less than 2 inches tall when I took these pictures last week, that is a quarter lying beside it on top of the soil .
The bloom was fully open . I never expected it to bloom at this size. The floribundas are always dead headed once the blooms are gone , they bloom best when kept dead headed but I must have missed a bloom , they do make hips. I have no white roses just the pinks -- a yellow and 2 dark reds .
Have any of you ever grown a rose from seed? I have never even tried . Wondering if it will continue to grow or what. I picked the dead bloom off , such a tiny little thing...
