I have news: nutrasweet is definitely addictive. Eleven days ago I dropped a 25 year Diet Pepsi addiction. To begin with I thought that would be cake. Then Friday I had to drive 385 miles (oneway)for business after spending a week and a half on a rush work project. About the time I got thereeverything seemed to bright and my eyes started to water. on the way back I had to stop and buy sunglasses. I stopped half way for 5 houses at my parents and slept someand took ibuprofen and coffee. That put me close enough to dark that i was able to make the trip home luckily. Iwas suffering my first migraine ever and it is just letting up tonight. When will the withdrawal be over? I've heard as long as 60 days. When done though I expect it to clear up some nagging health problems.
Don't take this as an endorsement of "regular" coke or Pepsi, I consider high fructose corn syrup to be just as insidious.

Wow, that's rough.
I get headaches when I consume aspartame (Nutrasweet). So I stay away from that stuff, too. I hope that you find giving it up helps you feel better in the long run.

Heinz Canada still makes Ketchup without HFC's. Getting tough to find any other brands without it, or brands that are manufactured in N. America at all.

I'm not sayin' nutra sweet isn't addictive, but I do know my reaction to caffeine withdrawals ( the headache ) and that is if I have caffeine, but not much............... The only time 'going without' doesn't 'affect' me is when I've been too sick/hurt to notice (and have quit drinkin' it for up to a yr, the, I always 'weaken' ) I used to (in a time long, long ago) drink up to a CASE of Pepsi in 1 DAY (and still wore a size 1 or 3 ) Blows my mind when I think of that............. Not the case for a long time now (15+ yrs) I do still occasionally, have a Pepsi, but only when Throwback is out.. . ( I have been fairly 'militant' about HFCS and my food needin' a passport to get here)

I did buy a 12 pack of Sierra Mist Cranberry with real sugar. I didn't skip caffeine though, still drank plenty of unsweet iced tea and coffee. Probably less caffeine over all. My younger sister had the same type of headache when she quite nutrasweet 3 years ago and her whole family are coffee addicts. I have a stevia plant in the backyard but I'd rather just do without.

I avoid 'diet' drinks (well, artificial anything) like the plague......... I had no idea that it was addictive, YIKES ..(good to know)............. All the more reason for me to keep on 'avoiding' ( I have PLENTY of other 'crutches and do NOT need any more ) ;D

Terraceracer, my first thought when I read GCG's post was that he was having a headache due to caffeine withdrawal. But then I reread it, and he mentioned taking ibuprofen and coffee, which didn't kill the headache. So it seems he's right about the NutraSweet.
Caffeine withdrawal headaches are brutal, too. The headache and the accompanying fatigue and malaise make you just want to crawl in a dark quiet hole for a couple of days. I've quit and restarted and re-quit my caffeine habit more times than I want to think about. Right now I'm off the stuff, and planning to stay that way for good. (I can't seem to moderate my caffeine intake. Every time I start drinking caffeine, one caffeinated beverage a day gradually ramps up to consuming caffeine from breakfast to bedtime. Since too much caffeine causes me problems, staying off the stuff is my only viable option.)
