Went to the Doc yesterday and of course I have high BP and high Cholesterol , on pills for the BP the cholesterol I am allergic to the pill so he put me on 1000mg's daily of fish oil, for one month, then bump it up to 2000mg's of fish oil. also take niacin 500 mg's daily ,the niacin may cause hot flashes so I am to take the slow release kind ... Anyone eles take fish oil for Cholesterol? My Cholesterol was over 300 ... I will take this for a few months then I have to go get blood work done.. See how it works Also am supposed to have 3 times the fiber that most people are to have ,Because of Diverticulosis .... doc said I cannot eat that much fiber, so Benefiber for me because it does not cause gas .... tasteless and sprinkle it on anything or put it in my tea in the am

I take fish oil for a genetically link high triglyceride level. Try adding one raw apple a day, it has been noted to reduce cholesterol and has a lot of fiber. a few walnuts a day can also help. Ditch hydrogenated fats(shortening and margarine) found in any commercially prepared baked goods.

Wendy, After my first heart attacks back in 1989 they put me on fish oils. Huge pills that tasted terrible for hours after taking them, I'd burp that terrible taste. Then one of the folks in Cardiac rehab, mentioned to keep them in the freezer. They don't repeat as badly. So I did and it helped some. Nowadays I eat sardines regularly...figured if I have to taste it I might as well eat it, High in Omega 3's also. I like Seasons brand skinless, boneless sardines packed in water, the best. (the blue and white box). Very few places carry them, most carry Seasons in oil, olive oil, soybean oil, etc. I also like kippersnacks, (smoked herring), packed in water and Wal-mart has started carring another brand from Germany. I think the name was plano. Neither of these smoked fillets are skinless...but the skin peels off very easily with the side of a fork. Both however, are boneless and I find them almost as tasty as the more expensive Seasons sardines. They're all better than those horrible pills. Enjoy! Camo PS: My cholesterol levels are much improved now over what they once were and even my triglycerides are less than half what they used to be.

I have been taking fish oil as a preventative for several years, since cholesterol issues run in my family. Getting the ones labeled "enteric" or "no fish burps" helps a lot. Several times I have just grabbed the cheapest fish oil and run into nasty-tasting fish burps that came back to haunt me for hours. Some of them were so awful that I threw out the whole bottle after taking only a couple of pills (despite being a cheapskate). Eventually I learned that fish oil is definitely a product for which it's worth paying extra for quality! A little trick I have is to take my fish oil at night right before bed. The idea is that if I do have fish burps, I sleep through them. Also, if you have access to a Sam's Club, that's where I am getting the ones I take now - their "Simply Right" store brand. Good price, and even when I wake up in the middle of the night, I never notice any fish taste. So as far as I can tell, they don't repeat at all. (Sardines and kippersnacks don't appeal to me. I'd much rather pop a fish oil capsule at bedtime!)

Brad takes fish oil for BP, but he also takes Q10 with it, and infact he came off the perscription that the Dr gave him, and only takes the fish oil and Q10.
Google Q10.

does brad think it helps? He does, his Dr has always switched(upped the dosage) his meds for his BP, and since he went on the Q10, takes 200mgs a day, he's been able to come off the medication, and only takes "natural" (excpet the aspirin) pills everyday, such as a multi vitamin, Q10, fish oil, daily dose aspirin, vitamin C pill, and vitamin D. It may not work for everyone, but we've been lucky with him, plus he hated taking those pills everyday and not knowing what the ramifications could be down the road.
