We get plenty of rain here...it's just that in some years the timing of the rain is wrong. This year we had a sopping wet April (April is usually the driest month of the year!) and we've had no rain other than a couple of sprinkles in May so far. There have been some thunderstorms around the last week or so, they've just missed my yard. So the trees needed a bit of help. Actually I think the trees were still okay, but the apples seemed to be sizing up slowly. I figure the tree was sacrificing fruit size to conserve water.
But yeah, the crazy organics are clearly the way to go at your place!

Got one Dorsett Golden apple so far. A little bitty thing, but at least I beat the birds to it. Youngest kiddo ate it.
I've had a few other apples color up here and there, but when they ripen one at a time like that, the critters win. Soon most of the Anna apples should ripen at once, and hopefully I will get some.

Kiefer Pear tree looks great so far. Guess it doesn't mind a lot of rain. The pomegranate is bigger this year than ever, won't bear here I think but hung in that area where it survives but isn't productive. Did the rain affect anyone else's trees?

Nice list smiles How big are all those trees? Wowwww Miss you guys too Pear trees are about 14 feet tall and the rest 9 or 10 feet tall. Peach tree is better than the moonglow pear now, which only makes a handful of pears though. I dislike ladders so did the shake and duck method for collecting pears last year. I know someone who took a terrible fall from doing the same using a ladder last fall, was paralyzed so be careful with any duties off the ground!

Hi peoples! Our pear tree is doing well this year, hoping to pick pears before Something or other gets 'em before me! We have deer galore but our (I think) Seckel pear is way too tall for the deer to get everything. I have a Moonglow too that is FINALLY producing pears for the first time this year. Anyway, I just bought a cheapo fruit press online, 1.6 gallon. Now I'm wondering how to crush the pears. We have one of those lithium battery 20-volt Black Decker tillers … if I put about 6 inches of fruit in the bottom of a plastic trug, will the tiller crush the pears enough for the fruit press to press them? (but will it also go through the trug?) … looking for ideas for crushing fruit without having to go to a blender or food processor, which I have, but which I strongly suspect would take a LONG time for a treeful of fruit (hoping, hoping!). It's so nice to see some old names on here from iDig days!! Are we all still alive? The years keep passing. Best regards to all!
