It's Thanksgiving here tomorrow. After that's over, I decorate for Halloween. November 1st is early enough for me to think about Christmas although we will probably put the house lights up before the snow flies. I won't put up a tree before my birthday which is in midDecember and we leave it up until after New Year's. We don't care for artificial trees so it can only stay up two weeks.

We have had our tree up sence last year! It's one of the purple ones from kohls last year --we thought the green wasn't right (cats and tinsel) the silver looked fake being too silvery I didn't like pink so we have a purple tree lol and it looks ok I think but we shall see in time lol I do need to get tome ornaments on it and that I also have a giant star I made for a larger tree that's on it (that was a living in dirt sort from Walmart) so lol ill prolly make some small origami or that (its a PURPLE tree why not have fun?) depending on my mood an that lol maby I could even bake/dehydrate a pickle? What about a mini rosemary wreath? Or outher things from my herbs?

Sounds neat Lieb! Origami is sooooo cool looking . Is the tree a deep purple or more like lavender..... Deep purple would really look good with the right shade of yellow.
Years ago I worked in a decorator / custom drapery , did a bedroom one time for a lady ---it looked like the room had been drenched in purple koolaide, double strength --- walls,l carpet, bed, but ended up being very pretty when we got through with it , tamed it down with some lemon yellow touches here and there.

Must be the holidays in Tejas! Yeah, there's watermelons behind the deer and those yellow things hanging behind the fence are ripe lemons.

I have started on my decorating --- put up the garlands --- and have the tree standing but nothing on it yet and boxes scattered all over the house----- wondering where the heck all this stuff came from!!!!!
On another tread I just posted my adventures today with the garland hanging --- its in general under gnu morning.
Hey is that in your yard with lemons and watermelons--- looks good!

And I'm sure the deer love watermelons Isn't that some form of entrapment come hunting season?? LOL Okay, so yesterday I took down the Fall decorations. We put up our Solar Christmas lights last week, and he turned them on this weekend. I strung garlands with pine cones and bows on the front porch railing and put a wreath with a shiny gold bow on the new shed. I'll put up a few more things later in the week.

Yep that's in the front yard by the street. Dunno if the waterelons will make, since temps are lower, but I figure it looks kind of neat.
Blue, these deer seem pretty good about not eating the produce. Not sure I'd want to eat them anyway. They look kind of stringy to me. Solar Christmas lights. Now that's something I need to start looking at in the next few years.

TX, we bought them at Lowes last year. Pricey to buy but cost nothing to use. They have a timer so we set them to come on about 5 pm and go off at 11 pm. Takes a good week or more of overcast conditions before the lights begin to dim. And they are nice big bulbs instead of the small light bulbs that LED's have. I like the LED's too, I've had them for several years since they were first introduced, but this house doesn't have an outside plug (yet) so the Solar lights were the ticket to being able to string lights outdoors.

LOL ML. Thanks for the info Blue. Surprising they can hold the illumination that long. Guess solar lights are getting better technology behind them. While I haven't bought any high-end yard lights, I have bought some medium priced ones that just didn't last long enough to pay for themselves. Course summer is hard on anything outside around here. Christmas lights wouldn't have to deal with that. Well, unless I got really, really lazy.

NO, we leave the lights up for a month or so, then pack them away. He left the solar collector on the roof, but turned if off.
I think the lights were $30 for a string (35?? feet).

Interesting. Is the rechargeable battery in the solar collector or in the light string itself? (I would have to remember to remove the battery from the solar collector or it would be toast by the following Christmas).

The house smells absolutely delicious right now. I've a batch of cinnamon ornaments on the dehydrator. Mixed into the recipe is a mixture of cloves, nutmeg and allspice!

I bet it does smell wonderful!!!!!
Are they only delicious smelling one season or can they be wrapped and stored for next year, and still retain their smell...

I store them in zip loc freezer bags and they will smell strong next year! If they don't, I just put a drop of cinnamon oil on each one and let it dry before hanging. of course, each year a new batch is made and that helps with the frangrance experience as well! (New batches are made because I am always on the look out for new cookie cutter designs. This year, there are dog bones, paw prints and dog cutouts as well on the tree.

I also found old style glass ornament cookie cutters! These I used salt dough recipe and varnished them after painting, so that they sparkle.

Ohhhh wow!!! bet those are neat looking !!!!
A hint for sparkle and icy snow look --- table salt sprinkled on a white painted ornies while paint is really wet for accent and sparkle or on those salt dough ornies brush a layer of clear drying white glue then add salt on top while its wet ---elmers type be sure it drys clear and sprinkle a course grain salt over and on the wet glue --- let dry flat -- may need to pat the salt crystals down a bit into the glue. not the ice cream salt one uses for home made ice cream but more like a sea salt or kosher salt . table salt on white paint is fine for like a bit of snow on Santa boots or even in a snowy landscape . I experiment on bits and pieces of those boo boos to work out what looks best --- course SOME people never make boo boos!!!! Me I always have some that don't look quite right or end up looking whompy jawed for some unknown reason!!!
