This is not a fiber craft, but there isn't any other place to post this...
I make jewelry. Mostly jewelry that is made of glass beads, semi-precious beads, semi-precious cabochons, gold-filled or sterling silver findings, etc. I make most of the jewelry that I wear. Frequently I will wear a piece for a few years, become bored with it, then disassemble it & reuse the components in a fresh new piece. I also make jewelry to give as gifts. I really enjoy crafting original jewelry. One of these days, if I am ever able to afford to do so, I will do some beadweaving with tiny semi-precious beads... Items such as beaded hat bands or beaded bands for belts. Imagine a belt decorated with tiny, shimmering moonstone or labradorite beads... *sigh*

Ohhhh your jewelry sounds fantastic! I also would love to see pictures ...
Thats one craft I have not tried yet. We were at a fair type event a few months back and did buy some cabochons but have not decided exactly how to use them. Nor have I had time to set down and think and scheme what &how to make.
My son sent me some Lapis Lazuli heart shapes from Afghanistan with silver findings --- those I simply bought silver chains for the granddaughters necklaces . Which reminds me I need to find little boxes and wrap!!!! LOL .

Thanks ladies! I don't think I can post pics because of bandwidth issues. I have NEVER been able to post pics on ANY ProBoards forums. Don't know exactly what the deal is, because I am able to post pics on other forums. (simple, straight from my hard drive using the 'Attach' command) *shrug* As far as cabochons go, you might try buying 'SnapTite' findings. It's so simple & easy to mount your cabs with them.

To post pics you have to use the reply box not the QUICK reply down on the bottom and use photo Bucket . theres how to instructions here--- see link below redneckacres.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=pictures&action=display&thread=194 A PB account is free and stores lots of pics. Thanks for the ""SnapTite "" fittings suggestion . We have some beautiful cabs just haven't gotten around to working with them. Do you order them online or are they found in craft stores? I need to do some shopping in the city next week for Christmas and there's a Hobby Lobby and a Michael's both had bead stuff the last time I was in there . Its been awhile tho and everything is stocked according to what is popular at the moment . Haaaa I never know what the latest fads are!!! I do my own thing depending on mood and what strikes my fancy.

I do my own thing depending on mood and what strikes my fancy. I never use quick reply when I try to post a pic. I have a Photobucket account. I have a Flickr account. I can't upload pics to either one. And I always set my camera for the smaller photo size. I think I have bandwidth issues... My internet provider is my phone. I use USB tethering to get internet service. I can upload pics straight from my hard drive on certain forums. It's only ProBoard forums that i can't upload pics to because ProBoards doesn't allow uploading from your PC's hard drive. I've just become resigned to the fact that I can't ever upload pics on any ProBoards forum. I don't know if SnapTite settings & findings are available in craft stores. It's been ages since I've been to a craft store. I usually shop online for craft supplies. The prices are 'usually' better online, unless you run across some in a craft store clearance rack or they have a monster sale. Also, you need to get a small metric ruler & measure your cabochons. The SnapTite findings & settings are measured in metric. Example: 5mm round or 8mmx10mm oval. Write down all the measurements on a list & take the list with you when you shop. SnapTite findings are VERY specific in their sizing. Or you can go online & Google SnapTite findings. One of the suppliers I use is Fire Mountain Gems. Their prices are about middle of the road, but their customer is usually excellent. I've had good luck with them in the past.

When you go to the Fire Mountain Gems website, prepare to be mind boggled... It is simply the largest crafts website I've ever seen! Years ago, it used to have the best prices I ever saw. Not so much anymore. Now the prices are in the average to slightly high range. But! You can find craft items there that are unavailable locally. I try to wait till I can make a large order because they have very good shipping prices. If you're buying heavy items in bulk, like large glass beads for instance, you will appreciate the shipping prices. Enjoy checking out the website! Be sure to check out their design section. Some of the design ideas are incredibly beautiful.
