Its very rare to have snow fall on Christmas Day in this part of Texas. But this year it had rained all night and all morning then shortly before noon the snow started falling ... The first few hours it fell in the water puddles then started covering the ground , we ended up with about 8 inches . This one was early the next morning just as the sun started peeping over the tree tops . Its a view of the garden area with my raised beds rose bushes --- leaves were still green! tree branches shrubs -- trees on north of the house beginning to snow trees on north side as snow started about midnight ---

When the snow started we had over 3 inches in the rain gauge.
My daughter and family lives 10 northeast of us and she had over 18 inches at her house--- lost power --went to the cabin --- lost that power so went to the farm--- was there fro awhile then that power went out but theres a generator that they fired up . They were without power over 48 hours , our electric flickered on and off all day Christmas Day til late that night but it didn't stay off any length of time. There were a lot of outages all around us , forgot how many thousands were out but some areas had more wind than we did here . One of my sons lives about 15 miles south of us and they had less snow--maybe 4 inches , some wind but no power oputages . Texas has weird weather !!! My cousin in Longview only had a few inches of snow --- Lv is about 50 miles southwest of us.

One of the strangest sights I remember seeing was during the winters in East Texas. Young skinny pine trees would 'bow down'. The skinniest pines would be so bowed down that their tops would be touching the ground, looking like arches. Then, come spring, they would straighten up & stand tall again. Weird.

AAAHHHH I have seen huge pine trees bend over from weight of ice---- when their branches start breaking during the freezing weather , it sounds like gun shots.

I don't have much experience with snow or really cold winters because I grew up all along the Gulf coast & south Texas. We did live in Virginia for a year & the snow got old pretty fast. (I've really only seen heavy snow twice in my life. East Texas & Virginia) So the cold stuff is foreign to me. :-)

Scroll back up to the 2nd set of pics that I posted---- that bent over shrub is an Althea that is about 6 feet tall -- It has straightened up now back to its normal size...
