Reddie, did you come to my garden without me knowing it? I was just down there checking zucchini and other assorted squash, and I found two that look suspiciously like a cushaw. I never planted any cushaw or butternut..... I did however panic in the spring when I thought nothing was growing, and plant more acorn and mex. green pumpkin- but nothing that looks like this I need more space for my winter squash next year!

Stranger things have happened I have a Petunia growing through a crack in my driveway. Something must have been walking around with petunia seeds between their beak last summer ?

I'm soooooooo happy about my squash this year. Having suffered from SVB in Texas for 20+ years I still can hardly believe that they aren't a problem here. Squash bugs, yes, but no borers.
We've had a bumper crop of both summer and winter squash. Today, I cooked the Sucrene de Berry, which sort of looks like a butternut. It's a squash from France. It was so good!!! Yum, yum.
Anyhow, next year I'm hoping to sell squash and will plant accordingly. Yea!!!!

I have two ground cherry volunteers. I didn't have any ground cherries last year. (I put in some plants, but they died without producing fruit.) Did two year old seeds which were in the soil suddenly decide to sprout? Or, were there a couple of seeds for ground cherries mixed into some other packet of seeds I planted this year? We'll never know!
