bout to go water my newer rose sticks....lol I can't yet contradict conventional wisdom in starting roses. but it seems and I say this lightly that one can possibly start a new bush off of a giant section of old wood branch.

wer is nasty today 40's and wet. might be what these lil poor refugees need. I still don't know bout the branches I planted that were not rooted. I am hoping for around 30-40 percent survival.

My gramma used to take rose cuttings and wrap the cut end in peat that had been damped with willow tea, then stick it in a jar and wait to see if it rooted. She got a better than 50 percent survival rate with that method.
Roses can surprise the heck out of you by coming back from the most awful damage. DD1 had some in the back yard and her (ex) fella mowed them all down trying to kill them. All he did was propagate them wide and far.
You never know.

Foraging, its called foraging. I had my grandpaw set me loose in a plowed field to forage for arrowheads.
On a good day I'd find him fifty of them.

It was bound to happen, and you found a neet-o way to get there from here (unthunk of by me).
Next spring and springs thereafter you are gonna dig up rose ready to be adopted. Put a shingle out on the end of the driveway advertizing your "for sale" price. Pot em up in one gallon pots and start to move your rose babies off to new forever homes.
Easy breezy trees to sell are: Japan maple, azalea, rose, fruiting trees are a distant fourth.
Given the choice of adopting out trees or chain-saw pruning them out. I'd rather see my babies live. I hope your milage don't vary.
