Like a woman redneck??? LOL Ok I'll rant!! We have been trying to get ahold of the kids so we can take a piece of furniture down to them, well we try to call nobody answers so we decide they are busy and make plans, so after we start canning and Dave tears apart one of the lawnmowers, they call, so we say sorry we are already doing other stuff (They live an hr. away) so the next day we had already had that day filled. My phone was dead they won't call their dad , I knew he was going to blow them off just becuse they blew us off the day before. So hopefully today they are going to be home because it (piece of furniture) is going down there!! Yea Brenda just called she is coming here around noon. To bad their car can't handle the piece of furniture I am talking about!! Pfftt But she can take the rest of the stuff!!

A few days ago, was splitting wood most of the day- on my last week off, before I have to go to the city 4-5 days a week to work, and not be home Pfffft!. so, after splitting wood, was sweaty and dirty, called hubs at work at about 4:30- he said he'd be home around 6. So, Della and I went over to the lake to swim. Was enjoying myself tremendously, swimming, throwing sticks for Della, watching the clouds over the mountain--- and something in the back of my head says to go home. So, went home, and just when I walked in, dripping wet, phone rang. Hubs- saying that he is bringing the new director of medicine (MD) and her hubs over for dinner, and they would be there in 1/2 hr. House isn't cleaned, I'm dripping wet, and I'm supposed to make a good impression on this couple!!!!!! I could have strangled him!!!!!!!

This isn't a rant about DH. This is a rant about the weather. I had to cover the garden up last night because of a frost advisory. Tonight too. I am so not ready for fall much less winter. Where did gardening season go? How come summer seems so short and winter seems so dang long?

I was laying on my side last night, left side facing away from hubbs. And he kept nudging me, He had to get up at 3 am. I knew my snoring was keeping him awake .... No worries I only take acid reflux pills and allergy pills

To the male who walked through my lettuce seed bed and not on the straw aisle..... You owe me for the seed, the time and labor involved, black kow, and the gasoline wasted on daily trips to keep the seed moist. Comes up to $78.96 please....

Ho Boy--That brings up memories of when I was newly married. We had just bought our first house in an older part of town with big yards. This was back in the day before computers & internet, and I'd read about how you could grow asparagus in S. Texas in my Texas Gardening subscription magazine. I worked all summer double digging just the perfect spot for a long bed along the east side of the property, back filling it with the right mixture of sand, top soil, and compost. Old timers in the neighborhood would sit under the shade of an old mesquite tree sipping lemonade and laughing at all the crazy things I was trying to grow.
Special ordered the crowns, and finally dug them into the bed. I couldn't wait for the three years before my first harvest. Time passed, and the bed just became a backdrop for other activities in the yard, but I kept an eye on the bed.
Then, one fine fall day, my gf and I went to the city, Corpus Christi, about 50 miles away, for a day of shopping. Dear Hubby, being a meat eater, paid no never mind to my gardening activities. In fact, his world revolved around hunting at that time of year. Upon arriving home at the end of our shopping trip, I was greeted by a big gangly golden retriever. What! We didn't have a retriever. Well, we did now - hubby decided he needed a hunting dog - bird season was soon under way. And that dog needed some place to call his own. DH had put up a chain link dog run, dog house, and cement slab RIGHT OVER A GOOD PORTION OF MY ASPARAGUS BED!! The perfect spot for him, and why hadn't I done something about those weeds?
I never did like that dog - Fred - very much.

There were alot of beautiful volunteer potato plants coming out of my compost which naturally had me excited! I had some garlic that were just right next to it in an upraised bed. The garlic had these lovely round heads of bulbils forming, tall and bright green.... My son was re arranging my garden implements to "borrow something" and set a heavy metal screen over all those potato plants and smashed them flat! Then, the garlic I hover over all summer, how I love the harvest of this....hubby decided to dump the grass clippings into the compost but slid the bag up against several of my lovely garlics breaking them off! I gasped when I saw what they both had done the same day! Oh thankfully I have netted and put beach sticks vertically along my upraised beds! The garlic did continue to grow, the bulbils were not mature enough to save. The potatoes did not recover. So much for my windfall of potatoes this year!

Earlier a few weeks back I was walking towards the garden with a hoe, hubbs said No don't do that I'll cut them down then I will till. Because he knows it hurts my wrist to hoe. So ok well it ended out raining , so his cutting the weeds down and hoeing didn't get done, then we went up north for a week, when we came back those weeds were waist high!! He did go thru and cut them down but the stalks were and inch or so high and getting in there was rough thought they'd go thru my shoe.. I told him the next time I walk to the garden with a hoe and he stops me I am going to kick his butt!! Sorry if this is a repeat but that really ticked me off!! The weeds are still bad because of it!!

I went to clean out the freezer on the lower portion of the fridge, groan. It kept frosting over, ice kept forming on the inner edge making it harder to close. First I chunked it off for some days til I was ready to rip into it. That was an understatement. I went to empty it this afternoon, the entire bottom of it was an iceberg...I mean it was several inches thick of ice and frozen packages were embedded in it. So naturally I empty what I can and I left the door open but it was not melting...hardly at all for hours. and I had to get dinner on. I decide I really can't hold a blowdryer and roll out pizza dough...too far of a stretch, so I position a blow dryer carefully on the very dry door of it, positioned above a dry towel with the cord securely on the microwave cart handle. So then I just had to wait a very long time, going back and forth moving that blow dryer along the edge to get a good aim on strategic parts every 20 minutes or so. The food I had put in a big plastic bin and hours later, it was all still frozen! I used a crow bar to chunk up the ice carefully not to damage the wire basket support still frozen in place and unwedged the foods...which I promptly tossed. So there you go, a redneck way to defrost an ice berg in your freezer....but folks do it safely! LOL

My microwave went pfft last night, in the middle of cooking some nice golden beets. (finished them on the stove top- they were fine) snowed last night- gonna be 25 tonight. gotta get out there and pick the rest of the green tomatoes before they freeze, bring in some wood to keep us warm tonight- bring in the last (sigh) of the hummingbird feeders- I always leave one or two out just in case of a straggler....... Took Della for a run with the 4 wheeler- BRISK!
