Lol me thinks coveting tiller operator and nothing to do with tiller lol. I bet I could get him to work for anyone always tells me he wants and needs money. So I try to pay him for helping he would not take it lol. Have to get in line though all he tells me about is the new girl he met. Hehe I tell him all the time the girls are taking all his money, First time the wife met him she also thought he was good looking and very nice.
Yep Red I will put him out for hire lol he works hard but is a texting machine. As seen in the pic he is texting while tilling lol.

LOL on texting even while tilling....our granddaughter is glued to her phone these days. Used to catch heck from the daughter when we wouldn't take our phone outside with us, so didn't answer it. I like to be away from tv, phones, computer sometimes; why take it out with me. Rather hear the breeze & birds than phone ringing. dobber, sounds like you need to get some rest....no sense in overdoing, tho when it feels like Spring, it is hard to sit around. Good that Tillerboy is around, tho, to give ya a hand with the work. ;D

In case you are worried we watered the wilting plants they are fine lol they did not know to do it first my bad I was stuck with the verizon guy hooking up my new servive lol come out have rows two feet maybe apart and five feet5 lol. Kids dang it tell em three feet get all over the place. It is all good works for me I had to barely till and dig no holes. They also built a bunch of new cages. Well worth a rack of ribs and 5 pounds of chicken leg quarters on the grill. Plus the veggies lol. 33 mater plants ready to grow.

LOL on the row spacing!! Well, you are teaching them to garden, which we know is a valuable lesson. Kids are sure not into that these days. But hopefully, this will help them in the future.
Hey dobber, maybe you should take those pics and market a 'Tiller Boy' calendar for 2013, eh?? It might go over good with young lady gardeners. ;D

Texting while tilling is a skill I'd never even considered I'd need. ;D I'm so out of date. I own a tiller and still I could use my own tiller boy. Sadly, I am he. The good news is I'll be starting my second year on an experimental Ruth Stout style no till plot. The plot was prepared the season before it was used and I was amazed at how soft the fresh ground (previously a grass grown yard) was. Wish me luck! To be honest I don't mind tilling my own garden but..............by the time I till mine, my mothers, my sisters, my neighbors, etc. I'm ready for the world to go no till. My garden tills like butter but the others..........not so much. Each year I rub my lower back and explain the virtues of compost in softening soil to these folks (how it imporves your garden, saves my back, and my tiller too.........you know the drill, I'm sure.) The truth is I get a good a kick out of helping friends and family start their gardens each year. BTW, tiller boy sounds like he needs to earn and is willing to work for it. THAT is an excellent virtue and one he should be proud of.

a very excellent virtue!!!
course a girly friend is a big incentive for making and earning!
Our tiller hooks on back of kubota and its sure a back saver. Just can no longer handle a walk about type one..

I'll have to look into that Ruth Stout method; this hard clay is impossible sometimes. My tiller boy ain't 21 anymore, either. ;D Hmm....Tiller boy looks a lot like an actor, but right now can't figure who. Who else here wants to be in the calendar?? Gotta have 12, ya know.

Bella, just keep amending that clay with compost and coir (or peat moss). It takes a few years and a few dollars but eventually the clay becomes agreeable.
I was 13 years getting the sandy garden on the farm to my liking, and then we decided to move. Thank goodness that this house had a well established garden with great soil!

Yup, we just keep working on it, blue. We did the same with sandy soil up North, for 16+ years, and then moved, also.
We've added horse manure, compost, and after planting we put down newspaper and straw every year. Weeds are not a big problem, so that's good. Had our soil tested, and that turned out ok.
Been out trying to clean up the herb garden today, but boy, it's really humid. Been getting showers off & on today; but we need the rain.

Got to get my cucumbers and melons direct seeded soon now so wet we got somewhere between 4 to 5 inches of rain in 14 hours grr. More forcast today tomorrow.
My weeend off went fishing caught some nice crappie and catfish. Gave them to the step kids dad. My turn in two weeks to keep them all for me lol.

We got garden all tilled, beds and rows made up and compost spread , ready for planting , got one row of pole beans planted then the rains came ! Now its all soaked down and flooded, water standing in parts. so no more planting til it drys out some. I did plant out 4 toms and they look good .
strawberrys are full of blooms and growing like crazy. I planted more in that bed than I should have , thinking some might not make it but each and every one has grown-- If they continue to grow the raised bed will be packed solid .

I have been amending my red clay soil with compost for the past 15+ years and it is no-till. The old man just doesn't understand LOL he keeps trying to talk me into tilling the main garden and I am running out of ways to explain that it is NO TILL! All those years of sweat and hard work were so I don't have to do it now!!!!
Of course, now it looks like I should have started my peppers and tomatoes last month along with you Texicans instead of waiting for the 'regular' starting time ... I guess I'll just direct seed them and use milk jug cloches again! LOL

15 years....arrrggghhh, I sometimes wonder if we'll be here that long; the way we've moved around, who knows........ I too, have been thinking of planting some things; tho hubby insists it's too early. It really is - but first to wait for the garden to dry out a bit for tilling, and then maybe some cool crops. Can always plant over if need be.... Nice tomato plant there, dobber. You'll be munching on those early this year!!
