Well, in between all the clean up after the tornado, I did get a few things done in the garden ... planted the navy, pinto, french green, green beans, and cow peas a few weeks ago and they are all up.
Planted the corn last monday and it was up yesterday! The wheat is plumping up and starting to brown at the bottom. My okra is up only a week after planting too!
I put the cucumbers in the ground on tuesday and they were sprouting yesterday too.
Planted a second and third set of sweet peas this month and still waiting for the last set to sprout. Pulling walking onions and replanting the tops of some of them. Still haven't seen the parsley or the daisys I planted 3 weeks ago, so calling them a bust.
I do have CELERY!!!! I have about 8 plants that sprouted for me, and I planted some more seed to see if they would sprout too.
I still have 2 types of okra to get planted and one more package of corn to plant, but those are waiting for 1) the spinach to finish (3 harvests off that this year), 2) the wheat to turn (okra will go there for growout), and 2 weeks past the first planting of corn to reach 2 weeks old.
I am also wanting to pick up some berry and grape starts this next week ... just don't know if I will have room in the berry bed for them this year LOL Wanting to plant a second planting of corn there this year.
The latest baby bunnies are large enough to be used as lawn mowers, so I need to go move them on the front yard now LOL

We'll see how it does if we get a broiling summer like last one. So far, my season is running about a month ahead of what it normally does ... should have sprouted my tomatoes back in January when you texicans were putting yours in! LOL

I may pick my first 2 maters of the season today they are almost ripe and I need to beat the squirrels to them. I got 3 whole maters last year that is why I planted so many this year. Started my seeds Jan 8th about 3 months and I got maters.

Very pretty, dobber. I used to grow those up north, but didn't think they would withstand the heat here. Hmmm; gotta get me some of those.

Yesterday, everything got watered and fertilized. Picked about 5 jalapenoes and 2 bell peppers. The tomatoes are just LOADED, and the green beans are finally blooming. The cucumbers are finally starting to run, and I have gladiolas starting to bloom. It's about time!

sounds wonderful Cat! Our garden is limping along growing --got a late start cuz of rain. We watered fertilized and more mulch spread... Noticed a few blooms here and there. Picked a few strawberries again. found a baby rose seedling growing under one of the pink roses ------ moved it to a pot so can keep track of it.

I don't know why I have never planted strawberries! I love them, and I have place to put them. I need to remember to do that in the fall.

These were planted this spring --or end of winter of this year. Had some once before but lost them to the drought and heat a couple years back. I was so upset I wouldn't replant until this year.. Besides was hard to find bare rooted ones here--- seems its a fad to plant them in hanging baskets right now round here and 4 or 5 plants ended up costing an arm and leg and first born child!!! None of which I was willing to part with!!! LOL

Dirtdobber, nice pic of the moss rose. I really love them and they grow here in summer so they definitely can take the heat!
I started picking Sweet Beverly tomatoes on Apr. 1 followed a few days later by San Marzano and Native Sun. Just picked the first Early Girl a few days ago, I'm not crazy about these and just grew them as a control to test varieties for earliness and the three mentioned ripened 3 weeks earlier and are as productive as early girl so I won't bother with that one again.
My onion tops are dying so they're about done, got some good sized ones but most are pretty small. Still have a lot of bunching onions though.
Some late planted turnips and beet greens are eating size, may not get to eat the roots but that's okay, next year I'll get them in earlier.
Most of the lettuces have bolted except for some late planted "slow bolt" plants and it's already hit 105 deg. but cooled down a bit now. That one will be grown again!
I have to get the shade cloth over the tomatoes as it'll start heating up again for real now, summer is a'coming!

Got off work this morning went out back two of my pepper plants in pots on the patio stripped of leaves for the second time this year. Well what do I see on plant two a munching hornworm in plain site. LOL he has met his maker as I had my knife in hand to do something else touched him he bowed up with one quick downward slash he was well not a pretty site.
Ok back to strawberries I got lucky got some on clearance last year think late May early June horrible summer here last year. Any how planted them in planters and have had several very nice strawberries so far yummy tasting to. Funny the June bearing type best for my zone gave me a bunch in mid April go figure.

Wow Desertrat we were typing at the same time. Yes Moss roses love heat and not a lot of water. As hot as it gets here in Dallas Fort Worth mine are in a concrete planter and come back every year.
The steady 20 plus mph winds seemed to have blown and broke my onions some are quite large so maybe they did it on their own but I think I will be picking them soon as well.
See several tomatoes showing color so will be picking them soon. I grew many smaller varieties this year and it seems to be working out with fruit set in the heat. We are getting in the low 90's with mid 70's at night all ready. Pickeed my first 2 tomatoes yesterday.

Our lettuce and spinach had started bolting last week so pulled it all up and tossed to the chickens. Will replant come fall once weather cools down . Not been a good year for onions for us. The walking and bunching ones doing great but for some reason the bulb onions just not making it. still have some growing so maybe later. DD , yesterday I found 10 horn worms on my Cross vines that grow on the porch to shade the southwesterly end-- but none on the peppers or tomato plants who are in pots not far from the vines. These plants were left behind when Jim planted the others out, these were a bit smaller than the others--- were started later. But still I figure would have been a target for the horn worms. Ohhh yes chickens loveeee the horn worms---hahhahaha----chicken football play offs !!!!!

Well one of the Mexican guys I work with gave me two root stock plants he started that grow into a bush perennial plant. He told me plant it and leave it alone next to a shrub or something to give it a little shade. It will get big like a shrub. Best I can fnd it is Chili Pequin plant. Little tiny chilis that are somewhere between 40k scoville to 140 k on the scale. Well I guess I will find them a home. Phew very spicy.

Just curious my strawberyy plants are in planters. We get into the low twenties here during winter. I never covered them with anything and they seem to be fine. Now we only have a few very cold nights for us a year and maybe 20 nights below freezing but I had blooms that set even after a 25 degree night. Guess the limited time they are cold does not effect them.

Picked 4 more small maters gave them to my neighbor she is 72. Lol she came out back today and took a look told me I was quite a gardener. I just smiled if she only knew how novice at this I am. Also she was saying she was making tator salad she is german should have asked for the recipie. Any ways I gave her some 1015 onions I picked while she was standing there to use.
Got a few Jalapenos I could pick but not ready for them.
Cucumbers are really starting to grow and the Jubilee watermelons are starting to run. Bermuda grass is starting to thrive in the garden as well sigh.
The green flesh cantaloupe I got from TXDD is really starting to take off as well. Don't have the name in front of me. I have only ate orange ones so I hope to get to taste some.

Hopefully this is the last time this spring.

Just got back in from picking dew berrys---- they are just ripening in this part of texas
they are growing down near the pond on the steepiest bank--of course--- and nope I didn't slide off into da pond! Prolly a gallon and half -- so many need jsut another couple days to ripen.
The pole beans are full of blooms and tiny lil beans ! The squash needs picking again, and maters are finally setting lots and lots--- no horn worms on maters yet ---seems they prefer my cross vine leaves --thats ok its needs a bit of trimming .
see a couple califlower heads ---they suddenly decided to head up---haaaa I was ready to pulll em and toss to chickies!!!
We ahve had rain this past week --- bout 4 inches --- it was needed---
other garden stuff has really taken off and growing now....
